Dr. Bianca Caridad Martinez-Edmonds, MD

I had a traumatizing experience with this doctor. I was admitted into the hospital after being involved in a severe car accident in which my car was totaled. After waiting a few hours to be seen by a doctor, Dr. Bianca Martinez-Edmonds walked into my emergency room. As soon as she walked in, she failed to mention her name and position at the hospital. I asked her if she was the doctor that would be caring for me. She responded, “Yes, tell me what happened.” I told her that I was involved in a severe car accident and that I was experiencing severe pain on my right ankle, kneecaps, my right elbow, chest, chin, back, neck, and head. She told me that she was busy and needed to evaluate my body quickly. She rapidly began to squeeze my various body parts intensely. I began to scream and cry because of the amount of pain I was undergoing and the amount of force she applied to my body. Dr. Bianca Martinez-Edmonds told me to stop screaming and to only scream when I felt pain. She mentioned that… she didn’t have time to have my entire body X-rayed by the radiologist. I told her to please not squeeze the areas that I mentioned before because they were bleeding and painful. Her response was, “I am sorry but I have to.” She then asked my fiancé to step out of the room while she continued her evaluation. Throughout the entire evaluation, I continued to scream and cry because of the amount of pain I was experiencing and because of how hard she continued to touch my body parts. After this traumatic evaluation, she then asked me to rate the degree of severity for my headache using the terms “mild,” “moderate,” or “severe.” I told her that I was experiencing a moderate to severe headache. She mentioned that I was experiencing a mild headache. I told her that I also evaluate and treat clients and that my headache was not mild but rather moderate to severe so to please put down the accurate response on paper. I then asked for her name and if she was the only physician attending emergency patients. She refused to verbally tell me her name, but rather took her badge and placed it two inches away from my face so that I could read the name from her badge. She then mentioned Dr. Maria Paone was the only other physician present. I told Dr. Bianca Martinez-Edmonds that I preferred to see the other doctor and that the way she treated me was not the way to treat a patient. She mentioned that the other doctor would have to re-evaluate me and that I would experience the same pain yet again. She stated if I wanted to see the other doctor it would take another couple of hours and regarding my pain she mentioned, “good luck with that.” She left the room and never returned. My experience with Dr. Bianca Martinez-Edmonds left me in complete distress and in disgust with the patient care services at St. Lawrence hospital. As a Bronxville resident, it is a shame that I have to find another hospital to take care of me during emergency situations. On a brighter note, Dr. Paone was very pleasant and nurturing. She re-evaluated my entire body extremely gently and mentioned that I needed a full body x-ray because of the amount of injuries present. She constantly checked up on me and apologized for my experience with Dr. Bianca Martinez-Edmonds.
