Dr. William A Castaldo, MD

My mother was recently at Upper Valley Medical Center for a thyroidectomy and had the unfortunate pleasure of being dismissed by the staff doctor, Dr. William Castaldo. Because of her medical history of Pulmonary Hypertension (and his apparent area of expertise - Pulmonology), Dr. Castaldo felt it neccessary to question medicines her specialist had put her on, as well as, berate her about not knowing certain information about her condition. He went as far as saying, "Well why are you on ________?" and after answering, my mom replied and he said, "That's not why you get put on that medicine." Now, I'm not a doctor, but I do know that it's completely unprofessional to question medicines that another specialist has put a patient on. Clearly, each doctor has his/her own reasoning for putting a patient on a medicine, it's not like she put herself on it. Also, it seems quite asinine for him to question it when she isn't even his patient!Dr. Castaldo also made a note to us of how he had… talked to two family doctors in his practice and they "haven't seen her for years." Well that is because she's smarter than to doctor with doctors who can't diagnose her when she's sick.But on top of everything,... this wasn't any of his business. She was there for a thyroidectomy, and he made no comment on the procedure or after care or recovery time... nothing.If you have an appointment with Dr. Castaldo, please reconsider it. You'll be so, so glad you saved some time and avoided him.
