My 87 year old mother has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her lower spine. She has been in extreme pain for a year with nothing done to help her. I have called various times and at one point got in touch with a nurse who checked her chart and it was noted she was referred to a pain clinic. Mom was never told anything about a pain clinic and was never notified. This was almost 10 months ago. The nurse never told her anything about it and it was just dropped. She was put on Celebrex and it did not help the pain. I called twice and spoke to his nurse and told her. They, at that point ordered an MRI and again said she was referred to a pain clinic. That was two weeks ago. I am a retired nurse that lives 4 hours away from my Mom. She lives alone with on one to help her. She can not stand without pain. She wants to live in her own home and does really well except for this pain. As a nurse who was taught that above everything you do, you put a patients pain or discomfort at the top of… your list to take care of. If you don't, you face discipline for your lack of nursing judgement and care. I am looking for another doctor that cares for their patients and for a nursing staff that follows up and keeps their patient informed. It is a sad situation when people that work in the medical field become so uncaring about an elderly patients pain.
