Dr. Blair Paul Grubb, MD

I certainly would recommend him. He patiently answered any question, even drew a picture of a heart. Since he had an emergency at another hospital, I was told he would be late and was given a meal ticket for the hospital cafeteria which was very good. I plan to go back to eat at the cafeteria which is modestly priced and has a wide selection, even many vegan dishes. I am now living with my pacemaker with no problems...so far.

I see so many comments about if he is so special, why does he "pawn" patients off on the nurse practitioner? You are NOT pawned off, he trains his staff with EVERYTHING they need to know about dysautonomia, and are essentially a clone of his mind. They will not do anything that they do not run by him first, but making it plain an simple... he IS the doctor to go see if you have autonomic dysfunction. I say this after we spent almost 2 years fighting with doctors here in Georgia over my daughter's diagnosis, and after she saw him and her diagnosis was confirmed and he ordered things for her, the doctors here started to listen and pay attention. He was a blessing from God, and now that my childhood symptoms have reared their ugly head, and thanks to my daughter we know what it is, I will be filling out the paperwork to get into to see him myself. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Blair Grubb, yesterday, and I am ashamed of myself for not recognizing the riches of his profession while I was in the office -- I hope this review can make public what I couldn't make clear to him at the appointment. I have had POTS for nearly a decade, and other autoimmune condition markers before I was given the diagnosis. With such a history, I had come into the office with an annotated compilation of my tests, symptoms, reports, and my own questions. I expected, like other doctors, that he would gobble up the data and make reasoned conclusions. But the pride I have about my organization was affronted when Dr. Grubb didn't seem interested in my portfolio. It took me a long time in the office to realize that he was, rather, interested in ME. What could *I* say about my history that was so noteworthy to me that I wanted change? Similarly, what was my plan? What was bothering me the most? I have a very lion-hearted cardiologist at U of M, and I… was used to his conversational tone, calm attention, and cheek-to-cheek smiles. Dr. Grubb was not visibly emotional, which made him very tough to read -- I'm a pretty sensitive person, so I was taking every interjection, failure to react, and shortness to heart. I think many people here seem to echo that. But I don't think that's his nature AT ALL, and I realized that after I was recounting the appointment to friends and family. In fact, he's exactly the opposite, and I want to emphasize that he has a heart of gold. Dr. Grubb was a story book, telling me a lot about disautonomia -- most of it I already knew, but it's like biblical scripture, you know; you have to hear it again and again to really live the meaning of it all. My husband was in the examine room, so it was helpful for HIM to hear all this from a doctor rather than from my Dr. Google attitude when my symptoms are flaring. He gave me a clear plan, direction, and the hope in a prescription. But he's honest about "it is what it is" and it was way more helpful than it is cruel to hear that. I was sent home hopeful -- even in the discernment of knowing the things I can't control and those which I might be able to. Lastly, I want to talk about his wonderful wife who passed away. She had to have been a remarkable woman to have inspired such a practice. Truly, I am thankful to Dr. Grubb that he mentions her so frequently. His care for patients cannot be separated from her -- and with her help, he showed me compassion. I can't imagine functioning in the environment that he does with the demeanor he has, and I was inspired by the visit. There is a lot of healing in love, and he frequently shared what that looks like with me.

Dr. Grubb has said he has written over 1000 articles on POTS. IF he is the expert why does he shove his patients off on nurse practitioner? I expect to see the specialist not someone so beneath his expertise. I will not return to be treated by a nurse I'll follow up with primary care. Better luck there.

He will hold your hand and gives you a long lecture about the autonomic nervous system, but does not review YOUR records and does not respond to follow up concerns after your appt. He will, however, send you the book "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" he sends it to every one. It takes a long time to get an appt because he only sees 5 new patients per month. I am sure he used to be good, but he's not any more!

Seemed distracted. Told me all about his own illnesses, his wife's illness and how this was a very difficult time in his life, gave me a long lecture about the autonomic nervous system (most of which I already knew), but he had not reviewed my records (I only sent test results from the mayo clinic), asked me almost nothing about my situation and I left feeling as if he had no understanding or interest in MY case.

He is considered a pioneer in the field of dysautonomia and his knowledge and expertise is exceptional. Patients may sometimes find themselves waiting in the waiting room if the patient before them had special needs but he is well worth the wait and once you get in he gives you his full attention (just like the patient before you got his full attention). Dysautonomia physicians do not run a fast food drive-thru business and due to the special needs of their overwhelmed patient population all the top specialists in this field tend to have longer office waits (so we refuse to even rate them on office wait as their patient population can be time consuming in an unpredictable way that is out of the doctors control). Once you get in that exam room you will… find that waiting was worthwhile! Dr. Beverly Karabin at his facility is also absolutely excellent too! You canâ??t go wrong with this practice! Due to patient demand, they often have a long waiting period for appointments so we always suggest that if you want to obtain a consult with this practice you start the process immediately (don't delay). It can take months so get on the list now. Dysautonomia has many ups and downs so even if you are feeling better by the time your appointment comes around - keep it. Their staff has the very difficult job of making thousands of appointments and meeting the demands of a very stressed patient population so kindness and patience goes a long way when calling. You may have to wait but good things are worth waiting for.

After seeing more than a dozen doctors, I can tell you that Blair Grubb is the absolute most incredible, knowledgeable and compassionate physician I have ever had the priviledge of meeting.Yes, it can be difficult to schedule with Dr. Grubb (after all he is only one person that has thousands of patients with hundreds more seeking appts each year - not to mention a very challenging situation on the home front).Yes, the staff could be a little warmer & friendly - but I suspect they are overwhelmed with the volume of patients seeking out Dr. Grubb.But after waiting nearly a year to meet the world's foremost authority in autonomic disorders, I truly feel blessed to be able to call him "my" doctor.Dr. Grubb spent nearly 2 hours with me on the first visit, detailing and quantifying the very condition that left numerous others baffled. No more was it "all in my head", but now my condition was labeled

I owe my life to Dr. Blair Grubb. I first saw him in 2002 after a sudden onset of tachycardia. He was the most caring and compassionate doctor that I've ever had the pleasure to meet. If it wasn't for his education, care plan and knowledge I probably would've been admitted to a nursing home at the age of 36. Instead, thanks to his help; I've been able to manage my illness and feel healthy most days. He is a rare man & doctor, if all were like him then people would be well off!

I am forever grateful to this amazing physician. he is truly special in so many ways, just an amazing clinician and person who cares more than life about his patients! his diagnosing and understanding of dysautonomia and the overlying causes of it, as well as the havoc it wreaks, is unmatched IMO. if you have unaswered questions, have ever been told you are nuts, or just don't know where else to turn, he is well worth the wait. you won't be sorry and you won't leave without help or a kind word and encouragement.
