Dr. Bobby Chawla, DO

I recently moved out of state after 20 years under Caldwell Cancer Care, beginning in 2004. I informed Dr. Chawla of my plans over a year ago, with my last visit on October 28. Dr. Chawla and I have had a contentious relationship since my first visit, when he left me waiting for over an hour and seemed offended when I addressed it. At my final visit, I informed him of my move. He abruptly said, “Well, then I’m taking you off your medication.” I take oral chemotherapy that suppresses leukemia and keeps me alive. Alarmed, I asked him to continue the medication through December, ensuring I could transition to a new oncologist and insurance. He mumbled what seemed like agreement, but in December, I was informed—via his nurse—that he refused to refill it as I was no longer his patient. Forty days without this medication, I feel the effects while my new oncologist works to resolve the issue. My primary care and urologist ensured a smooth transition; why couldn’t Dr. Chawla? Caldwell Cancer… Care’s staff deserves five stars, but I’ll be filing a formal complaint about Dr. Chawla. Patients deserve better during critical transitions.

I went to a doctor maybe once every three or four years. When I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer I was referred to surgeon, endocrinologist, oncologist, and medical oncologist. So now I have five doctors that I have to keep appointments with. I like all of them but I think Dr. Chawla will be my favorite!! He is the last one I met. I hadn't been told he was part of the team only to find out he will be the glue that holds all of this together!
