Dr. Bonnie Ann Buechel, MD

TL;DR: My experience with Dr. Beuchel at Intermountain Health – Northfield Clinic was terrible. Instead of treating me with compassion, she was rude and unprofessional. She dismissed my clinical ADHD diagnosis and denied me the medication I was already taking for it (despite my proper usage and reporting of how helpful it is), and ignored my other health concerns. Medical gaslighting is a terrible thing to deal with, and this experience left me very upset with little faith in the primary care system. I would advise anyone who values empathy, compassion, and their patient self-advocacy against seeing Dr. Beuchel. To say my experience with Dr. Beuchel at Intermountain Health Northfield Clinic was upsetting and disappointing would be an understatement – it was by far the worst primary care experience I’ve ever had. I scheduled an appointment with her because although I liked my other PCP, I did feel he could be initially dismissive of my health concerns, and I thought a woman doctor… would be more empathetic. I was wrong in this case though. The primary reason I scheduled the appointment was to discuss a potential EDS diagnosis, but I also have been taking lisdexamphetamine for ADHD for the past 6 months and needed that renewed (because it has to be every 3 months). My concern about EDS was not discussed despite my attempt to bring it up, and instead the appointment time was spent with me filling out a controlled substance contract and taking a urine test (I had gone through this process with my former PCP who diagnosed me/prescribed the lisdexamphetamine, so I was happy to oblige). I was very communicative and open, and my urine test came up as expected. However, days later I receive a blunt and rude message from Dr. Beuchel basically saying she didn’t believe my PCP’s diagnosis (although it was performed according to diagnostic guidelines) and that she would not refill my medication. Although she didn’t ask me at all whether I already had mental health treatment, she basically tried to hand me off to their behavioral health department through placing a referral. In addition to taking lisdexamphetamine, which has been revolutionary in treating many of my ADHD symptoms, I also have a licensed clinical psychologist (who also has ADHD) who I speak to about additional strategies for managing my ADHD and general anxiety issues/life stressors. So, in summary, I got absolutely nothing out of my visit with Dr. Beuchel except the feeling of being gaslighted and disrespected, and this experience has unfortunately discouraged me from finding a new PCP and expressing my health concerns. Please, for your own health, do not go to this clinic.
