Dr. Bonnie Joan Dattel, MD

There was last minute confusion about my ability to FaceTime my husband / record the appt (due to COVID restrictions) and she spent the whole appointment complaining about how many times a day she has to tell patients they can't record, while prodding me with the doppler in an unnecessarily strong and obviously frustrated way. Never described what she was seeing, or her evaluation of what she was seeing until the very end when she declared "all is good", despite saying I needed to come back for a follow-up because she couldn't get the views she wanted. In 8 months of pregnancy, transfers between OB's and perinatal physicians, I have never felt like such an obvious inconvenience or a piece of meat until Dr. Dattel.

Dr. Dattel was unnecessarily pessimistic about our anatomy scan findings, inappropriately discussing potential life threatening diagnoses and deficits that we were nowhere near meeting criteria for. She made it sound as if our baby had numerous severe abnormalities, all of which were contradicted and definitively ruled out by second opinions with two other doctors, a genetic counselor, and repeat scans. Expecting parents are an incredibly vulnerable population, and Dr. Dattel’s callous “doom and gloom” bedside manner caused incredible emotional stress in our pregnancy. She should not be convincing patients that the sky is falling unless she is absolutely certain that something is wrong, because in our case the only thing that was wrong was her.

I will never forget her.

Dr. Dattel delivered all four of my boys. With all four I was very sick with pre-eclampsia and she always caught it before I got eclampsia. I had a baby at 20 weeks that was born early due to an incompetent cervix and she made sure that never happened again and preformed cerclages on me to make sure. I wouldn't of wanted any other dr to take care of me than her. I trusted her with my life and at my sickest she always took the best care of me. I always remember her saying the proof is in the pudding. She's right thanks to her I now have four beautiful boys. I haven't seen her in over four years but I think about her often when I look at my boys or when they ask me about when they were born. Thank you Dr. Dattel.. Always

I had complications with my pregnancy & didn't know until I was sent to Norfolk General & saw Dr. Dattel. She assured me I wasn't having my baby that day or that weekend, & I didn't. I was able to hold out 6 more weeks. She was confident in her years of experience as well her medical knowledge. She delivered both of my children via emergency c-section 18 months apart. I HIGHLY recommend her!
