Dr. Bonnie Jo Flick, MD

I don't typically submit reviews but I need to share my experience and view about Dr. Flick so others don't experience what we did. I give Dr. Flick a 2 rather than a 1 because she demonstrated competence in accurately diagnosing my son's extreme anxiety. I'm not sure why we continued to rely on her guidance but we did. She really shouldn't be in this occupation. She shows absolutely no empathy nor interest in children. She is super unapproachable, cold, and has no capacity to connect with children or adults. We stopped seeing her when she argued and belittled me in front of my son about taking him off his medication too quickly. As I explained to Dr. Flick, I had tried reaching her and left a message but never heard back so I used my best judgment in reducing my son's dosage. Her lack of emotional intelligence and inability to address her concerns appropriately, showing no concern for how her behavior impacts a child with high anxiety is absolutely unacceptable for a mental… health professional. Unfortunately, Dr. Flick is unable to take her great experience and put it to valuable use.

My now 16 year old daughter has Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Anorexia Nervosa. We've gone back & forth with medication as she has tried 8 different anti-depressants, none of which have worked so we took her off of them for over 2 years. She's been in therapy for 6 years. We were referred to Mind Matters as things have gotten progressively worse and we're ready to explore medication again. We called and had to wait 3 months for an appointment. I talked to them personally several times (trying to expedite the appointment) so they were aware of my daughter's eating disorder. We waited the 3 months and right before my daughter's first appointment, she relapsed and went into a residential eating disorder hospital in another state - she was there for 2 months. I was in communication with Mind Matters, informing them of what was going on, and rescheduling her initial appointment until after her discharge. We scheduled out 3 appointments for after… her discharge. This entire time Mind Matters was fully aware that my daughter also had an eating disorder. We finally had our first appointment this week, 90 minutes long, my husband took a day off work as he was required to be there, and we filled out a ton more paperwork. My daughter was put on a pretty major anti-depressant in residential treatment and Dr. Bonnie Flick refused to refill it (we had 2 pills remaining). I explained she'd been on it for 5 weeks, she can't just go cold turkey. Dr. Flick was callous about it and said there's no way she's filling it, get her doctor to fill it. Ooookay... so we did that. And then, 2 days later Dr. Flick called us personally to tell us that there is NO PSYCHIATRIST AT MIND MATTERS THAT CAN HELP MY DAUGHTER WITH HER EATING DISORDER, DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. They are refusing care. I'm absolutely disgusted. They may be great if you're having a little bout of depression or anxiety here and there - but if you have an adolescent/teenager who is really suffering, and especially if part of their negative coping mechanisms are eating disorder related - stay the h*ll away from this place. Dr. Bonnie Flick was a callous robot concerning our daughter and the general feeling is if these people really have to earn their money, they're just not going to treat your kid or help your family. Stay away from Dr. Flick and Mind Matters if you have a child with an eating disorder. They will lead you on for several months and then deny care. I mean, c'mon, I could have been researching and securing another psychiatrist during those 5 months, instead of wasting my time and my daughter's life, on Mind Matters. Big middle finger, Bonnie Flick!!!

Dr. Flick was the worst mental health provider we have seen. She has a cold, non-personal demeanor, and makes little to no attempt to connect with my young daughter or make anyone feel comfortable. You sit there feeling unwelcome, stupid for the questions you ask, and challenged for your parenting decisions. She often discussed inappropriate and upsetting subjects in my daughter’s presence. All might have been forgiven if her plan of care was good, but it was disastrous.

I agree with the two prior reviews. EXACTLY how I felt, cold, and condescending. She asked inappropriate questions in front of my child. She assumed I had control over the Ex (dad) requirement to attend appointments, without finding out the status of his involvement in child care first "all in front of my child" . She made me feel like a poor parent for not seeking help sooner, WITHOUT first asking my reasons. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND

Dr. Flick was my son's doctor. One of the issues he talked to her about - as it is one of his biggest stressors - is the fact that we just don't have very much money. He worried regularly to her about it. And yet, when my ex-husband didn't make the required (and his legally-bound) co-pays and they started to add up to over $100, she would ask me why they weren't getting paid, IN SESSION in front of my son. The office bookkeeper also confronted me in the lobby about it, once again, in front of my son. All just really bad. It was the thing that made us stop seeing her which has also been an issue due to not being able to bridge his prescriptions to another doctor so that there was a break in between. It's all just bad and I would not recommend her. At all.

Dr. Flick is arrogant, condescending, cold, uncaring and seems to be unhappy at her job. I wish we could start all over. My child just goes through the motions to answer her questions, and 15 mins. later is out the door. No humanity, all business.
