History of Baker Orthodontics
Helping people to achieve their greatest potential for a healthy, successful future is Dr. Brad Baker's professional passion. He never gets tired of seeing his patients' smiles, and lives, transformed.
Dr. Baker is an Escondido native, and has been professionally serving the people of his home town since 1988. He is also a second-generation orthodontist, whose father, Dr. Guy T. Baker, founded Baker Orthodontics in 1978.  Dr. Brad graduated from San Pasqual High School, and then attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a bachelors degree in Zoology. He loved his college experience, and was awarded two academic scholarships during his time at BYU. As an undergraduate, Dr. Baker helped conduct research studies on the affects of smoking and alcohol on fetal development.
Dr. Baker earned his dental degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. While there, he was involved in research in …the department of Orthodontics, doing early pioneering work in the use of dental implants as anchorage for orthodontic treatment, a procedure which is now used extensively in actual practice. He was awarded the Orthodontic Award upon graduation from UCLA.
Dr. Baker completed a Hospital Dentistry Residency at the U.C. San Francisco School of Dentistry. Â Under the direction of the Department of Oral Surgery, he acquired an excellent background in emergency dentistry and in the area of combined orthodontics and orthognathic surgery.
Next, Dr. Baker attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he received advanced specialty training and clinical certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. This intensive two-year course of study also included a Master’s degree in Craniofacial Biology, with in-depth study of the development of the head, face, and jaws.
In 1988, Dr. Baker joined his father in his orthodontic practice in Escondido, where they had the great pleasure of practicing together for five years, until his father’s retirement. During this period, he met and married his sweetheart, Angie, and they now have three beautiful children, Julia, Alex, and Shannon.  The Bakers believe in the value of education.  Angie is very involved at the school that the kids attend: the San Pasqual Union School.  She is also serving on the school board.  Dr. Baker frequently guest-lectures at elementary schools on biology and dental health.
The Bakers are very active in church service and youth programs.  Dr. Baker has, for many years, worked with the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout himself, he loves the scouting program, and the impact it has on the lives of the youth it serves. He is excited to be on the scouting trail with his own son, Alex.  Dr. Baker also enjoys camping, water sports, fishing, woodwork, travel, and just hanging out with his wife and kids!
Dr. Baker has been certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, and is a Past President of the San Diego Academy of Orthodontists. He has also served as a Program Chair for the California Association of Orthodontists in their Continuing Education committee.  Dr. Baker places a high priority on keeping up with the latest research and technology in the field of orthodontics, and bringing these innovations into his practice for the benefit of his patients.  He offers a variety of treatment modalities, including Inovation® braces, which use low-force and low-friction, for shorter appointments, and quicker, more pain-free treatment.  He strives to make orthodontics as esthetic as possible, specializing in ceramic (tooth-colored) braces, and lingual (behind the teeth) braces, which are completely invisible. Of course, he also offers Invisalign (or brace-free) treatment; he has been an Invisalign provider since 2000.
“I love being an orthodontist!†says Dr. Baker. “I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do. I’m working with an amazing, top-notch team, and my patients are great! The field of orthodontics is
