Dr. Bradley W Steffens, DO

Okay, bear with me: I went in because my kids doctor's office suggested we were tested for carbon monoxide, since I have a leak somewhere in my cars exhaust system and I'm not sure yet if it made its way into the cabin of my vehicle, which is a reasonable reason to go to the ER, nonetheless, a scary scenario to be in. I explained that to this guy over the phone, he hung up on me. After calling my kids physician's office, speaking to a nurse and poison control, I had my friend take me and my kids in just to be safe. Doctor Know-it-all asked more questions about my car than he did about me, or any of my kids. He told me that my car wouldn't run if my catalytic converter wasn't working or missing altogether. *eyeroll* While I'm happy this guy isn't a mechanic, his overconfidence was disturbing. He went to great lengths to minimize me, and the questions I had, especially when he didnt know what he was talking about. He went I circles with the car questions for a minute before saying he… would test me just in case. He "didn't want the drama" of testing the kids(?). He ended up testing ME for CO exposure and didn't test my asthmatic kid or any of my kids for that matter, then "diagnosed" me with a tension headache (lmao). Put nicely, this dude is a pompous jerkwad, and will go to great lengths to avoid actually doing his job by making you seem like you're overreacting. In addition, his demeanor is... unsettling. It's alarming that he is even in this profession at all, given his blatant lack of humanity and social skills. I would say he is in the wrong profession but I'm not sure there is a "correct" profession for people like him. Talking to him reminded me of those interviews with serial killers. You look at them and it's like behind the eyes there is no humanity beyond surface level: no emotion, no empathy, nothing... just the physical form of a human. I wish I didn't mean that... but unfortunately I do. Not many people make me uncomfortable, but HE gave me the heebie jeebies. This is someone who has no business being in a profession where people depend on an individual's skillset as well as their competence and compassion. (Then again, those things can't be taught on paper.) He may have gotten through medical school, but he does not have the social aptitude to be a doctor. Maybe he should be a mechanic?

We went in to get seen at the ER. He is super awkward and weird. We felt like a bother to even come in. Even though we left with a small diagnose, we were very concerned with the symptoms but he just made us feel stupid for coming in.
