Dr. Melanie Brealyn Sellers, MD

Extremely knowledgable about medication, however not open to hearing questions or concerns about what she prescribes. Listens intently and stays on top of all the latest research. However found she was not forthcoming about my diagnosis when it would have benefitted me to know. Either that, or she did not accurately diagnose me. Either way, not great.

Spare yourself a terrible heartache and pass this doctor by. As I have seen through her doctoring of a family member, she essentially approaches her practice as a 9-5 operation. It doesn't matter the level of trauma or crisis, her response is to distance herself and refer her ailing patient to the emergency room. She refuses to allow family members into the care of her patients, even when the patient requests it, and even when those family members are picking up the falling pieces. Since leaving her practice, after staying far too long, my family member has found fabulous psychiatric support. With each psychiatric consult, before choosing the doctor with whom she will stay, we were asked to be involved when appropriate, contact information was shared with both patient and family, and we found a day and night difference. There is wonderful psychiatric care available in the Greater NY area, especially when you pay out of pocket, which all of her patients must; you do not need to settle… for someone who treats you as an afterthought or a bother. I don't know what drove Dr. Sellers to a career in psychiatry, but she has lost hold of any mission, idealism, or drive to help that she perhaps once had.

Dr. Sellers was one of the best psychiatrist's I've seen. I have been to two dozen different doctors and none of them were able to diagnose me like she did. The only factors I didn't like was, I was 5 minutes late and she made me wait 15 extra minutes to be seen and had the audacity to charge for a full session. Mind you, she doesn't take insurance. Yes, she was expensive but if I still had the money I would've kept seeing her.

Extremely intelligent, intuitive and compassionate. I couldn't ask for more from a psychiatrist.

I have been treated by Dr. Sellers for 3 years, and have had a very successful experience. She is warm and caring, returns calls promptly and is able to make excellent referrals to other healthcare providers. She's kind, smart and committed to her patients, in my experience.
