Dr. Brenda Price, MD

Brenda C Price was my OB during the birth of my son. She was friendly at first, preparing me for a cesarean birth I didn’t want or need. After listening to her plan, I shared with her my desire to birth my son vaginally and without medication. It was then that her whole tune changed. She told me, “Come up with your own plan and if you don’t or it doesn’t work, we’ll follow mine.” We followed my plan and in doing so Dr. Price shortened an already short leash I had while being in the hospital and in her care. I was reprimanded for walking, squatting and soaking in the tub. She took 9 (yes NINE) pelvic exams in the first 3 hours of me being there. Each time she’d scoff, “umph, she’s not making any progress.” It was on the ninth exam that I said, “Stop, you cannot touch me again.” She was upset and said I “had to” settle for her vaginally inserting a 12” catheter. My contractions started to build (the strongest contractions the nurses and my doula had ever seen—their words), it was then… that Brenda walked in laughing as I was on the floor in a table top position laboring my son (yet she was clueless). This walking in laughing at me laboring on all fours happened more than once. Brenda Price was too concerned with her own agenda to even notice my son was crowning. She remarked, “oh, gosh, she’s on the floor!” And continued to laugh! She came close to ask me a—third time—if I wanted an epidural to reduce the pain. My answer was and had been a clear no yet she continued to press. I was infuriated. I shouted, “No means no! Get the f*** out! And stop harassing me!” She left. Shortly after, I pulled the catheter out as it was extremely uncomfortable as I was laboring my son. Seeing this on the monitor, Brenda Price came back into the room and began talking about prepping me for cesarean. She was completely unaware that I was in active labor. Her words kept filling the space until I told her, “stop talking! The baby’s coming!” She hurried over and in 3 pushes my son was born. Brenda Price served as a catalyst demanding I birth with strength and clarity for the health of my son. Empowering as it might be, Brenda C Price was extremely unprofessional pushing her agenda onto me and lacking common sense of honoring, respecting and appreciating the wisdom of women, their anatomy, and their babies. It’s surprising to me how someone lacking such awareness and care can be working with women and their families in a life event as intimate and profound as birth. I respect hospitals and their mission. I do. That is why it is essential to me that our health care system cultivates awareness, respect and genuine care for those they’re treating especially when it comes to labor and delivery.

She put unnecessary fear into me and my husband "I just don't want to see you have to raise these kids on your own" when I was in the middle of a contraction! She told me "you might as well get a c-section now because you are going to end up with one anyway. We are go into have to wake up the anesthesiologist and nurses. They are going to get tired..." Really unpleasant. And a bully.
