Dr. Brett Starr, MD

Dr. Starr specializes in a wide array of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Procedures. His cardiovascular surgery offerings include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral and tricuspid valve repair / replacement, thoracic aortic surgery, ventricular assist device management, and cardiovascular critical care. Thoracic surgery offerings include procedures for both cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as benign thoracic conditions. These procedures include minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), pulmonary resections (wedge, segmentectomy, lobectomy), and mediastinal procedures, chest wall resections, complex bronchoscopy and endoscopy, and thoracic trauma management.Dr. Starr is the Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences and Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Frye Regional Heart Center. In addition, he serves as the Surgical Director of both …the FryeCare Valve Clinic and Thoracic Oncology Service Line at Frye Regional Medical Center. He is on active staff at Duke University Hospital and a faculty member of the Duke University School of Medicine. He serves in a variety of local and national roles with the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons in addition to being actively engaged in partnership with industry in pioneering developments in cardiac surgery.
