Dr. Brian L. Badman, MD

I had surgery by Dr. Badman in 2024 for what was described as a small right rotator cuff tear. I was sent to PT a little over 2 weeks post operatively. Following, I experienced a great deal of pain and returned to Dr. Badman to apprise him of this. I voiced concerns I thought the repair had torn. I was told by Dr. Badman everything appeared to be “intact”. Pain continued and I was told to stop going to PT and to stay in the brace. During this time period, I complained of significant pain in my left and right shoulders and noted the shoulder brace’s fit caused additional pain. When I was taken out of the brace at the est. 6 week mark, I experienced pain relief for approximately 2-3 days at which time horrific pain ensued. Dr. Badman was out of town and I had to wait to see him the following week. I explained the pain was so severe it felt like acid was inside my right shoulder. I also complained of a very painful left shoulder as I had before and also complained of my right biceps… tendon being very painful. Dr. Badman was quite irritated, and moved my arm stating, “This is your bicep, your bicep is fine”. He also remarked that my left shoulder pain was related to my difficulty having issues tolerating the brace. He never examined my left shoulder. I continued pressing him about my pain and mobility issues until he unhappily walked out of the room and ordered an MRI of my right surgical shoulder. That was the last I spoke to Dr. Badman or his office staff. I never received a call back about my MRI results as can be substantiated by my phone’s digital log. I learned from the imaging center the surgical repair of my rotator cuff by Dr. Badman had re-tore. After finding a new surgeon, I learned that the re-tear in my right shoulder was so severe it was believed I would need a total shoulder replacement. Additionally, I learned the pain in my left shoulder was from that rotator cuff also being torn. I was referred to a pain specialist for the intense pain I was in while I awaited having surgery. Following surgery by my new surgeon, I was placed in a comfortable shoulder brace. I then came to understand more about the damage the surgeon found. It explained why I was in so much pain following the first surgery performed by Dr. Badman and included an explanation of why my biceps tendon was so painful. The obvious questions in this situation are how does ANY patient go see an “orthopedic shoulder specialist”, go into surgery with a small rotator cuff tear and end up with a massive one that is so significant, a new surgeon and second surgery is required where it is believed a total shoulder replacement is needed? How does this happen when a patient is completely compliant? Why would a patient be left with unmanageable pain to the point of losing 30% of their hair. Why would a patient who continually complained of left shoulder pain and right bicep’s pain have those symptoms dismissed only to learn from a different surgeon they were from a torn left rotator cuff and bicep branch fraying that required surgical removal. I would submit the answers to these questions are obvious and, in my opinion, I would further submit that Dr. Badman’s patient care and surgical treatment of my shoulder(s) did not meet any standard of acceptable patient care; it was indefensible and a disgrace.

My shoulder replaced and have not been able to return to work since that was a year and a half ago. If you're not doing well he doesn't like to see you. He definitely needs to work on his bedside manner.

At my visit, Dr Badman was sloppily wearing his face mask to barely cover his upper lip. I thought that perhaps he was a kindred spirit in only wearing a mask because he had to, not because he thought them necessary, so I asked him about his mask policy. He told me I could remove my mask if I was vaccinated, and I said I wasn't because I don't agree with or trust the vaccines, and why. The specifics of why I don't agree with the vaccines are not important for purposes of this review, but they were respectfully stated. Dr Badman proceeded to berate me using several choice 4 letter words and tell me that he didn't ever want to see me or treat me again, and later sent me a certified letter they would take legal action if I ever came back. So... needless to say, I do not recommend seeing Dr Badman, for any reason. Regardless of a difference of opinion on an unrelated medical issue, his behavior was unbecoming and unprofessional.

Dr. Badman did a reverse total shoulder replacement for me, on Feb, 19th. I could not be more pleased, thus far. He is direct and a "Straight shooter." The communication from Dr. Badman, is exceptional! From the pre op consultation visit, on through the process I have received phone calls, emails, texts and videos. He is more than willing to take the time to put concerns, to rest. Dr. compliance is the patients part of the team effort.

I highly recommend Dr Badman, easy to talk to, he explained my shoulder issues, and explained his recommendations. Very knowledgeable Surgeon.

I have been ailed with shoulder pain since high school due to years of wrestling, weight lifting and CrossFit. I had finally decided to go have Dr Badman take a look at my shoulder to find out that I had done a lot of damage to it and would need extensive surgery. He got me in right away and now fast forward 5 months later I’m back doing any and all sports along with Crossfit. Dr. Badman walked me through the process, explained to me what to expect and told me I would make a full recovery back to where I was prior to surgery as long as I followed his recovery process and I’m very pleased to say that I’m back and 100% happy with my results. To be back to crossfit again with out the shoulder pain I once had on a daily basis is amazing and a relief.

Was told my shoulder and bi-cep damages would be 100% corrected after (2) back to back surgeries. Not! I am reminded daily of the surgeries performed. After 20 weeks of rehab my arm might have been 25% of what it use to be. Was told it would continue to get better in time. My shoulder and arm did not RE develop as I was led to believe. Been (3) years now and I still have only 50% capacity of my arm. I have no bi-cep strength. I get severe cramp when curling 7-10# and have to set down what I pick up. The hand stays (3-4) degree colder all the time. Winter time is almost unbearable and I must keep my one hand protected from the cold. All this went unnoticed for several winter months while recovering at home wrapped up in a blanket. Was told non of my sysmtoms is resultant of the surgery and no other explanation was provided.

After another orthopedic doc messed up my shoulder, I started seeing Dr. Badman. A replacement was inevitable, but knowing I was hesitant, Dr Badman patiently managed my pain and monitored my situation for two years. I just had the replacement and had an amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Accurate diagnosis along with an understandable explanation, answering all my questions. Surgery went as smooth and as explained. Recovery went well and just as was explained. Skilled surgeon who has an empathetic ear and takes time to explain the complexity of my overall condition and how to best treat it and recover.

I've been seeing Dr. Badman for several years for my knee pain. He always listens to me and spends time with me. He tells me what his recommendations are but allows me to make the decision about what treatment plan works best for me. I appreciate that!
