Dr. Brian Mendoza Bruel, MD

Never even got to see him. After being told my Dr had a family emergency I went ahead and made a follow up visit and was supposed to see Dr. Bruel. After waiting 2 hours I was only seen by a Nurse practitioner and charged the same rate as a Dr. After calling 10 times about my medication that was the reason I went for the follow up I was told I would have to make an appointment with Dr Bruel. Mind you this was a week after seeing a Nurse practitioner. Now I am seeing a new Dr in Houston and have left numerous messages at Cypain in the Woodlands trying to get my medical records. No one answers and no one returns calls. Cypain is a nightmare.

The research I did on Dr Bruel showed how amazingly hard he has and continues to work to be the best Dr he can be. This was EXACTLY why we our our teenage son to go to him. Unfortunately, the office is not at all professional and has probably caused this Dr more than 1 new patient. The phone is always on answering service which would not be bad if messages were ever returned. I called The Woodlands number who did have a nice, professional young man answer the phone who genuinely tried to be helpful but, of course, whoever handles referrals/patient set up never called back. My efforts spanned about 3 weeks because of the awesome things I read about Dr Bruel. I have given up and have moved on to another Dr who, after the 1st phone call, took care of everything. Talented Drs spend 100s of 1000s of dollars to become a Dr and to become a top Dr like Dr Bruel. It is sad that an office worker, that I'm sure did not invest near as much time and money to get their job, costs… patients.

Dr. Bruel is the best physician I’ve encountered in the nearly 4 years I’ve dealt with back pain. He is the only one who seemed to really care about me and he has always been compassionate with regard to my problems. We’ve finally found a solution to ameliorate my pain and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The previous physicians I encountered only wanted to do injections, which never helped. I’m thankful I’ve found Dr. Bruel.

Dr. Bruel has the knowledge, skills, experience and creativity to tackle even my back. I've struggled with kyphoscoliosis since childhood and, although Dr. Bruel claims it's not the worst spine he's ever seen, it's challenging to treat. With epidurals at L4 and L5, my sciatica is gone. I had forgotten what it was like to move from lying to sitting, and from sitting to standing, and then walking without stabbing pain. Dr. Bruel claims he has a plan to provide longer-term relief to my back pain, so I immediately scheduled a follow-up appointment to see what he has up his sleeve. Very highly recommended.

I waited 3 hours for a 5 minute visit. I felt like he had no time for me. After 3 hours I was rushed out. He lost my records. It was a waste of time.

I would not recommend this physician or his staff. I was suppose to have a procedure and I didn’t have it due to lack of communication and care of the physician and his staff. I even received a call asking me what level a procedure was suppose to be given at in the spine instead of Dr. Bruel calling the ordering physician.

Dr. Bruel is very knowledgeable about different areas of pain. I have chronic pain in my neck and my lower back. However, I recently was diagnosed with angiosarcoma of the liver (cancer). On February 8, 2017 I had surgery to remove the tumor from my liver, the doctors all had me on high doses of pain medication and I was in extreme pain immediately after my surgery. The hospital doctors increased the dose and frequency of the pain medication I was receiving and it still was not helping. They contacted Dr. Bruel and he came in and saved the day. He completely changed my medication and I was immediately getting relief from my surgical pain. When I was being released he came in to see me and told me that he wanted to see me the next week, but since I live in Cleveland, Texas he did not want me to have to drive that far. However, all my doctors are with the Baylor College of Medicine so I would be down there all the time anyway (about 55 miles from my home). So I decided to become a… patient of Dr. Bruel. He has worked with me on my medication to get me through my chemo and understands that I want other options to control my pain besides medication once I am finished with chemo (you can't get injections/do procedures during chemo because you don't heal as well and your blood work is not in good shape, so you usually have to wait for your blood work to come back good). I was having some serious neck pain (chronic issue) that wasn't going away and I asked him if we could do injections, he looked up my blood work and established that it all looked great. He then had Stacy, his amazing nurse, call me and we scheduled the injections in his office the next week. I have had nothing but exceptional care from Dr. Bruel and his nurse Stacy. When I was admitted into the hospital for my first round of chemo, Dr. Bruel took the time to come to my room and check on me the first day. I wasn't fitted with my port yet so he came back two days later to check on me and I had been gone from my room but he kept an eye on the hospital log to see where I was in the hospital to make a point to see me. He even came to my room to check on me at 8 AT NIGHT!! I never have to wait when I go for my monthly follow up. If my appointment is at 8:30AM then Stacy is calling my name to come back by 8:30AM. I have never spent more than 10 minutes past my appointment time to be called back to a room. Once I'm in the room, I have not waited past 10 minutes for Dr. Bruel. They always call me back when I call to leave a message. Amazing bedside manner, great personalities, knowledgeable about different types of pain, does procedures in office or at a facility with anesthesia. I plan to be a patient of Dr. Bruel for a very long time. I am even sending my mom to see Dr. Bruel. Her current pain management doctor has turned out to be horrible.

I have had many issues over the course of the last 6 months and Dr. Bruell is the 3rd Specialist I have been to concerning these issues. Not only did he want to know everything that I had learned from the other doctors (unrelated fields) but he reached out to them to discuss my symptoms and possible diagnosis. While they are still trying to determine the cause, he is the only doctor that has not rescheduled appointments on me and has set me up with other specialists that could help me. He seems to genuinely care whether or not I get better and he is very informative and communicates clearly on where you stand. I believe that as long as I continue to see him I will get resolution, regardless of what that may be.

Pain Management very difficult specialty. When asked why he chose this field, he responded, "when we can make a difference, it is very rewarding". Statement spoke volumns.
