Dr. Brian Samuel Englander, MD

I found a suspicious lump on my breast so my GP sent me over to have a mammogram. She also recommended at the time to make an appointment with a breast surgeon, which I did. Had the mammo and Dr Englander read the scan, said the lump was "nothing, completely superficial" after following up with an ultrasound. For some reason I didn't feel completely reassured so I asked if he thought I should still see a breast surgeon and he said it was unnecessary. He told me to return if the lump got larger, which it never did, but it also didn't go away. Few months later my GYN recommended that I see the breast surgeon, skipping the mammo and I promptly followed his instructions. The surgeon did an ultrasound but nothing showed up as cancerous. Despite this, she performed a biopsy which determined it was indeed a malignancy. I was livid and frightened after realizing I had been walking around with a cancerous tumor for better part of a year. The worst part I thought Dr. Englander had been… condescending and cavalier probably given to my young age at the time, he probably thought I was being reactionary. In retrospect I would've gotten a second opinion but I had no any idea that a mammo AND an ultrasound can fail to detect malignancy.

I had a US guided core breast biopsy today. I found Dr. Brian Englander to be pleasant, patient, and very proficient with the procedure. The numbing process was thorough and painless, as was the entire procedure. It was quick ~ 5 minutes and he obtained a good specimen with the first shot. I was thoroughly pleased and impressed with Dr. Englander and his assistant Eileen's service, (and I am not easily impressed) I would recommend him wholeheartedly. Concerning follow up after visit, it's too soon to tell.
