Dr. Brian Thomas Gietzen, MD

My mother was a patient of Dr Gietzen for several years with high blood pressure and pain. No testing or concern-was told it was part of aging. One blood test at new dr pin pointed kidney issue. Further testing uncovered advanced kidney cancer and heart blockage. Confirmed by board of drs at Beaumont Hosptital that cancer had be growing for quite some time and is incurable. If only it was treated sooner... Office staff is cold and it’s next to impossible to get an actual appointment with the dr himself. Nurse and PA skills were lacking.

Had to wait 2 months for an appointment. When I tried to see the doctor they said my appt was no good because I didn't fill out some consent form they never told me about.

It was convenient to have Dr Gietzen be contacted and go over to the assisted living to see my mom. There were times when staff did not communicate with each other or me well. I also wasn't fond of some of his help they came out to see my mom.

Legacy is very unprofessional and unable to meet their own stated service levels. When I shared with Dr. Gietzen (Legacy doctor) the history of overlooked follow through by his office, he was so alarmed that he asked Steve Ebben (Legacy President) to personally call me. I shared with him several instances where Marcy Guimond (Legacy office manager) is not able to return calls and relay messages from the doctors, which jeopardizes patient care. Instead of addressing it, Marcy "fired" us as patients within 3 months. Felt very retaliatory. Expect lots of dropped balls and poor care for your loved ones as a result. Please find another doctor in a well-run practice to visit your loved one in assisted living - there are others.

Dr. Gietzen is the best doctor ever!!! He came to the hospital every single day the entire month my husband was there. I am his patient as well. He has never kept me waiting in his office. He will spend as much time as you need with him. First doctor I have had that makes you feel like he genuinely cares about your best interest. I can't say enough. He is wonderful!!! I look forward to my appointments with him. He explains everything to you and definitely makes you feel better.

I was dropped as a patient because I was unable to make time for a physical the prior year. I tried to explain that due to extenuating circumstances (being caregiver for an aging parent) I had little time to care for myself. I was told by the office staff it doesn't matter we will no longer see you as a patient. To bad because prior to this I would have recommended Dr. Gietzen to all.

As an RN I would like to know why he wouldn't take the previous reviewer as a pt. Sometimes there are good reasons.Anyway, I deal with literally hundreds of doctors on my job and he is way above average. He is excellent at explaining things and spent a good deal of time giving rationale for the treatments he recommends. He allows the family to have input into the Tx. He shows empathy and understanding about what the patient and family are going through. He was very tolerant of my family's frustration with the system and it's inadequacies.In an effort to mitigate a facility's unreasonable policy he offered to make emergency home visits in order to prevent unecessary hospitalizations for my father. Despite the fact that the facility would not bend their policy I was nonetheless impressed that he offered this because I have never heard of any other Dr. providing such a courtesy.

He would not take me on as a new patient unless I would retake all the tests I took with other doctors! Wouldn't even write a script for me! He didn't care he left me hanging without a doctor for one month!!! I never met a doctor that horrible!!!!
