Dr Brian Gillis is a board certified specialist; certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Proctology, and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic College of Proctology, where he served as past president form 2007 to 2008. Dr. Gillis received his Medical Degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995, and completed his internship at St Vincent Hospital in Worcester Massachusetts, and completed his residency at Grandview Hospital, in Dayton Ohio.

Dr Gillis is a renowned expert in anal-rectal pathology and physiology, with a subspecialty in defecatory disorders. Dr Gillis is licensed by the State of Maine as an Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon. He practices at Maine General Hospital in Augusta Maine, and at Inland Hospital in Waterville Maine, where he served as Vice Chief of Staff for many years. He was a member of the Board of …Trustees until it's closure in June 2025. He served as Chief of Surgery at Inland Hospital from 2008 to 2011. He lives in nearby Belgrade Maine with his wife and three children.

Dr Gillis owns and operates the largest anorectal defecatory laboratory in the state of Maine. Its a major referral center in the state of Maine for patients suffering from fecal incontinence and chronic constipation.

Dr Gillis was very informative about what was going on with my stomach and what was causing me so much pain. His staff was very friendly and accommodating. I thank them for being so kind

Dr. Gillis himself for the 5 minutes that I saw him was wonderful. His staff, on the other hand is horrible. I will not be going back to this office again. Cannot get through to the office. Needed information sent TWICE because never received the first time. Claimed a phone call was made to change surgery time and it was never received so I showed up at the designated time to learn my surgery was 2 hours later. Too bad, because I think I would have liked him as a doctor. I'll never know

Dr.Gillis is an amazing doctor. He is professional and reliable and he cares about his patients. His staff also are very nice and always professional. It’s hard to find a doctor these days that cares about you and that doesn’t just treat you like a number. I highly recommend Dr. Gillis.

This is something a lot of people dread but Dr.Gillis and his staff are calm and respectful. They don't make you feel embarassed or ashamed. I was very nervous the first time I went for an appointment and actually put it off much longer than I should have but I once I met Dr. Gillis and the staff I felt a big sigh of relief. I can see why he is such a busy doctor!! You can tell he is very knowledgeable yet professional and take a the time to answer your questions. He truly cares and wants to see you get better. You are not just another number here. Your a patient and they treat you like one which is almost unheard of in todays medical field. I want to thank everyone from the Secretary to the medical assistant to Dr.Gillis for helping me. I'm on the road to recovery finally and I wouldn't trust any other doctor but Dr Gillis with my care!!!!

ive been treated by Dr.Gillis sense 1999.I met him in Portland when i had a treatment with my former doctor. When Dr.Gillis came to oakland i was happy because i got great care without traveling to Portland. I have gone to him many times and he never gave up getting me pain free.
