Dr. Brian T McLaughlin, MD, MD

I went to the ER due to extreme fatigue and a lingering fever. My blood test came back with an abnormality, and the ER doctor forwarded my test results to Dr. McLaughlin. Dr. McLaughlin scheduled me for a bone marrow biopsy and also scheduled my first appointment with him. Right after my biopsy, before meeting him in person for the appointment, Dr. McLaughlin called me and told me that I have Acute Myeloid Leukemia, an aggressive type of blood cancer. He told me to go to UPMC Cancer Center in Shadyside immediately for treatment as it's life threatening. I was impressed by Dr. McLaughlin's strong sense of responsibility. His call was critical and really helped me gain precious time for treatment. Over the past four months, I encountered multiple life-threatening situations - extremely low platelet, non-stoppable bleeding, extremely low white blood cell count, infections etc. Dr. McLaughlin and his team not only have saved but took great care of me, an 81-year-old AML patient. His… excellence in medical knowledge and skills, his compassion to patients, his strong sense of responsibility to save and care for patients make him a great doctor! I know the road to recovery is long and hard, but I feel so lucky to have Dr. McLaughlin and his team on this journey with me. I cannot ask for a better doctor and a care team!

Dr Mclaughlin takes time to listen to his patients. He explains options and reasons for tests. He is caring and compassionate.

No compassion and just likes to make decisions without explanations...most doctors tell you why they are deciding to do things or change treatment , etc.
