Dr. Brian T. Mcnelis, MD

He seemed really friendly at first. I imagine that was to lure you into becoming a patient. I had just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma. During one phone conversation he told me I was in the 25% of patients with high risk cancer. Of course I was upset. He said don’t you ever have anything positive to say. Then once he said you should just be glad you don’t have some kind of leukemia. I forgot which one, but obviously it would have been worse than MM. after my first treatment I developed a rash. Of course it was a weekend so I called the service and a lovely female Dr called me and told me what to do etc. come Monday morning he calls me. I had just woke up. He said what was so important that you called my office three times this morning. I said I didn’t call I just woke up. He said then your husband did. He didn’t. I told him about the rash which was spreading. He said well now you have to go to hospital. He said it in a tone like he was spiteful about it. To my knowledge he… never checked on my while I was in the hospital. I had planned on going to Mt Sinai once treatment began so his treatment of me just expedited it. I continued treatment at mt Sinai in NYC and saw an amazing Dr I had a stem cell transplant and was in a deep remission for four years. I need to start treatment again soon but know I am In the best hands and will treated with compassion and care. My dr said that McNelis probably didn’t have many MM patients because when I told him that he didn’t perform a specific blood test he said he should have. Luckily I only had one treatment while McNelis patient. He is condescending and ill equipped to treat a MM Patient and should have told me that from the start. I see many drs and have never had one this cold.

This guy is the worst doctor I ever met< was cruel to my mother ,her last few moths of life!!! Do not use him!!!!!

there is something wrong with this Doctor, what ever you do, do not send someone you love to see him!

Dr. McNelis has obviously some psychological issues which he has brought to his office. He is probably the most abrasive individual I have ever met. If you are looking for a physician with manners, Dr. McNelis has none.

My husband just died after having battled pancreatic cancer for almost 4 and a half years. During this time Dr. McNellis was his oncologist. This doctor is abrasive if you question the type of treatment he suggests. He has no patience, neither does he want to discuss differences of opinion. He is neither compassionate nor warm.Rather than go into the past few years I shall just comment on the past four weeks when my husband was in the hospital and then in hospice. During the time of his hospitalization I believe Dr. McNellis saw him twice. The first time I did not see him. The second time I saw him very briefly, but did not have a chance to speak to him as he left very rapidly before I had an opportunity to ask questions. During that visit I had to leave the room in order to speak to one of the nurses. This took all of about 5 minutes. When I returned Dr. McNellis was gone. I tried to find him to no avail. My husband then went into in-patient hospice, and after 5 days he… died. It has been 3 and a half weeks since he passed away and there has been neither a sympathy card nor a message to pay condolences from this doctor. I realize that he deals with sick or dying patients every day, but he could have had the decency to acknowledge my husband 's passing. Even a card from his office would have been appreciated. However - nothing! Prospective patients be warned - if you want warmth or compassion do not go to Dr. McNellis. He can be nasty and cutting. When you need reassurance you will not get it from him. I was told he is a good oncologist , but as a human being he is sorely lacking!

Expert, compassionate and commited physician. Hard to find physicians diligent and dedicated to individual patients. Battling cancer my mother finally feels she has a knowledgeable and caring leader.

If you are looking for compassion you will not get it from this doctor! He is rude, dismissive when you need him most and uncaring . Initially he seemed pleasant, but when you ask questions his attitude is one of mockery. The unspoken message is "don't bother me - just listen to me" I am so disappointed in this doctor. I would have thought an oncologist would be compassionate and empathetic - not this one!!!!

Writing this in hopes I could save other patients the heartache & helpless feeling my ill family member & I felt as her caretaker while under Dr. McNelis' care. Initially, Dr McNelis presented as a warm & knowledgeable physician. Soon after chemo began, my family member had to be rushed to the ER. We contacted Dr. McNelis after hours via his after hour service. We were met with a HIGHLY abrasive response - "What do you want me to do about it!?", & Hung up on me. My family member was newly diagnosed with a Stage 4 Cancer. Extremely unprofessional. He was no support at all and frankly very hurtful. I highly advise avoiding this physician at all costs, he will not be there when you need him most.

Dr. Brian McNelis was/is my oncologist. He is a very good diagnostic doctor. Even before I had exploratory surgery, he told me the possibilities of what my surgeon could find. He was correct! He is a very serious doctor, but he was there for me throughout all the very difficult times. It is 15 years later, and I am so thankful that Dr. Brian McNelis was my oncologist!!

He is very thorough. Concerned about all health problems. Pleasant and easy to talk to. Highly recommend .
