Dr. Brian Olivier, MD

He has been my doctor for around 8 years, I totally trust him to take care of any ailments I have. The best one out there.

Olivier practices at UC Health clinic at Chapel Hills. Paternalistic provider, i.e., the doctor ALWAYS knows best..and if he can't figure you out, it's because: a.) you are a problem patient or b.) you have anxiety. Sounds familiar anyone? I thought we'd gotten beyond those days in medicine, but that "lazy medicine" culture still exists. Olivier doesn't listen -- he consistently spends 15 minutes of the 20 minute visit talking at me, cutting me (and my husband) off in mid-sentence, and dismissing any substantive medical research I cite as "Dr Google" -- his words. It's like a debate, and it's exhausting and frustrating to spend money on a co-pay for nothing but wasted time. During my third (and final) visit to him, I just shut down and let him spin off until I could escape his office. It was made-for-TV stupidity featuring every stereotype you've ever witnessed. Both my husband and I have observed that he forgets conversations/information from prior visits and then… shames/blames me for doing things HE agreed to in prior visits. My after-visit notes in the patient portal are always incorrect -- important medical facts missing or completely concocted. In fact, there was more incorrect information than correct information input re: my last visit. That's a BIG problem...and that is what prompted me to write this review. However, he did accurately note that "Her husband accompanies her to all her visits" which is secret medical code for "her husband is an overbearing tyrant" OR "She's so crazy she has to bring her husband along." Frankly, I bring my healthcare-attorney husband along as a "check" for EXACTLY this type of doctor, and as a second set of ears for me...because I actually listen.

Let me start by saying that I've been one of the first patients of dr. Olivier since he joined CSHP and I still believe that he is one of the best physicians in the area. But last couple of years I have had nothing but issues with getting the health insurance claims paid every time I went to see him. From putting in the wrong codes, to charging for preventive care visits (because I "talked to the doctor for too long" and it was considered another appointment) etc. If it wasn't for dr. Olivier I would have chosen a different provider a lot sooner. The most recent issue I had was that they said they would not be able to schedule my annual physical with until March next year (and I called in mid August). They recommended me to see a different physician at this location if need the appointment sooner, which I did. But even though they made the recommendation, they didn't put in the "referral" which was required by my insurance. Now I have been dealing with them and I will have to pay… the total cost out of my pocket, because they are saying I should have requested the referral myself. I do not know all the nicks and nacks of the insurance policy and they don't have time to check policy of their patients (that's exactly what CSHP accounting person told me) and I have to pay 100% of the cost for the preventive care by myself. The worst part of the whole story was that said dr. Olivier has not been in the office, even though he came out of his office while I was there and he even asked me how come I didn't come see him... Unless you are willing to spend endless hours on the phone with CSHP accounting and your insurance company I would encourage you to take your business somewhere where they actually care about their patients/customers and don't mind checking with the insurance before they send you a bill.

I changed doctors because of location but I am going back to Dr. Olivier because he is miles ahead of the doctor I switched to. It is worth the extra drive to have a professional, caring, awesome doctor like Dr. Olivier.

I had some results back from a test i had a lot of questions. Got a call back from unfriendly nurse saying that the doctor did not call his patients it was her job. and if i wanted to talk to the doctor i would have to set another appointment. WHATS UP WITH THAT! :)
