Dr. Brian M. Showalter, MD

Dr Showalter did an amazing job with son and we couldn't be more pleased with him. Both my son and I couldn't have asked for a better Surgeon. I would happily recommend him.

Dr. Showalter might be a great surgeon, but he is unethical. When I consulted him about my surgery, he told me that we would go through with the second part of the procedure only if he didn't find a particular problem. When I read the legal consent to have the surgery done, the contingency plan of not doing it if the problem was found was not in the contract. I specifically asked about that and re-emphasized that I didn't want to go through with the full procedure if the problem was found. He said "It doesn't say that in the contract, but that's what we talked about and I won't do the surgery if XXXX is found." Since he seemed like a charming and trustworthy person, I didn't make him rewrite the contract-and if I had, it might have delayed my surgery. I woke up from the surgery, found out that the particular problem was found, and that he went through with the procedure anyway. I asked why, and he said that I looked like a good candidate and thought he should just go for it. If I'd had… the opportunity to do the research and discuss it with him, I never would have gone with that plan. As a result I've had a lot of pain and suffering and am considering having the procedure reversed-which will cost a lot and involve a lot more recovery time. However, I know that my body will not heal perfectly and that I can never go back to the way things were if the procedure had never been done. In addition to this, in preparation for surgery, I was sent to get an MRI when I had a metal device in me. Dr. Showalter placed the device himself and ordered the MRI for me. When I showed up to get it, the medical staff realized that I couldn't go through with the procedure-the magnet would have ripped the metal through my skin. While it is fortunate that the MRI staff averted a disaster, it was a great inconvenience for me. Ultimately the problems with rescheduling a more appropriate pre-surical imaging procedure resulted in a delay in my surgery. This is more than a minor inconvenience, since I had worked my schedule around recovery, and family had already arrived from out of town to take care of me when the surgery was postponed.

Dr Showalter is an absolute brilliant doctor.He is very kind,compassionate and knowledgable! I feel very blessed to have him as my surgeon for a very difficult wound.Highle recommend!
