Great doc. Smart and willing to go beyond call of duty if necessary.

Very calm, very smart and kind. I would recommend him for any neurological questions.

I was very dissatisfied with his professionalism. He had another doctor in his practice perform a nerve conduction test. Which showed abnormalities. This information was shared with my RA doctor as there was a problem. I get to the appointment to see Dr. Wiseman and he looks at the nerve conduction test and says, "I discount everything that this doctor has written. I would not recommend this doctor as a neurologist.

I have NEVER been treated so unprofessionally by a Dr & his staff! From the moment I checked in until I left I felt like nothing but an inconvenience to everyone of them! (This was my initial visit.I am in my 30's) I have been having excruciating headaches daily for 8 months. I finally agreed with my PCP to get an MRI done. A lesion was found on my brain along with abnormal labs. I took my medical records & scans with me. He never once asked how I was feeling or listened to what I had to say. Didn't even really look over the notes in my chart. He looked at the disc, confirmed the lesion, told me it was nothing to be concerned of & then asked what I was wanting him to do. I replied that my PCP had done all she felt she could do and wanted me to see a neurologist & let him decide what the next steps should be. His exact words were I don't buy that for a minute! You just have a migraine & need a headache specialist. I was appalled & DISCOURAGE anyone that desires help from choosing him.

Dr. Wiseman always answers my questions. He is the third neurologist that I have been to. Finally, I have a good specialist.

He and his medical student made up their minds that I was not having seizures because mine don't fit "typical" seizures according to them. He thinks it's stress, even though I had one that woke me up and another after meditating.Which, by the way, I researched seizures after the first one, and I found the epilepsy.com website. According to them, there are no typical seizures. But my symptoms fit a seizure. And the ER I went to after a particularly bad one did as well.

I've had MS symptoms for over five years. My primary care physician thinks I have MS. A neurologist I saw five years ago thought I had MS. My neuro-ophthalmologist, who just diagnosed me with optic neuritis, thinks I have MS too. The rheumatologist I saw at Vanderbilt thinks I have MS as well. I currently see the top MS specialist in the Knoxville area. But she won't diagnose me with MS. Do you know why? Because I don't meet the McDonald criteria for diagnosis which neurologist have to follow in order to diagnose someone with MS. Even with 5 brain lesions and optic neuritis, I don't meet the criteria. Like you, I started with no brain lesions on my MRIs five years ago. I now have 5. But I don't meet the McDonald criteria. No neurologist is going to diagnose you with MS without brain lesions. That's just the way it is. You can see every neurologist in Knoxville and you're not going to find one who will do it. Sorry. That's jut the way it is. Not until you meet the McDonald criteria will… you ever get a diagnosis of MS. MS is a diagnosis of exclusion. Every possible cause for the symptoms have to be ruled out first. And you have to have brain lesions. You're going to be constantly disappointed if you expect otherwise. Be patient, and keep searching for answers. But don't expect to be diagnosed with MS until you meet the McDonald criteria (Google it!)Good luck!

Dr Wiseman figured out what my problem is after I have been to several other doctors. We had given up finding an accurate diagnosis and were glad to be referred to him. I will have more tests but appreciated the time he took on my case and, above all, his obvious concern for my pain and symptoms. The appointment process could be a little better but the doctor knows what he's doing.

In none of my visits did he listen to me! He was off in his own little world the whole time just hearing what he wanted to hear! And, what he thought changed with the wind! At first, he said my MS symptoms were just a migraine! Then, I did not go back then, as me & my friend who was with me both thought he was some nut/quack. But then another doc office referred me to him again! I told them when they made the appt. at Wisemens office that I did NOT want to see him again, because he did not listen, & did not do enough to find out what was really wrong with me! They promised me another doc in the group-which I never got!!! Then, he drug things out for months, doing 1 little tests at a time. And, I would have to wait too long to get them! And, I would have to keep calling to get them! And, they/he never made me an appt to go over any of them in person!!! And, then after he drug it all out for months, repeatedly going over the results over the phone but never really telling me anything, he… NEVER ever gave me a diagnosis! And, like the 1st time he said migraines! Then, when I got referred back to him, he said there was nothing that he could find--w/o doing any test! But, then I told him that the doctor that referred me there said that he thought that I had an accoustic neuroma! Then, he looked at a hearing test done by this other nut, & then said, OH YA! I totally agree!!! That's what you have, & if it isn't that then you definately have a brain tumor!!! So then he schedules these tests--MRI/MRA. Then, when he knows I'm walking out the door to have them done, he calls me, & holds me up from the tests & then tells me, I got your message about all the other symptoms--which by the way I had told him on both 1st visits!!! I kept telling him that I had all these weird MS type symtoms & even went over every symptom that I had per bateum! Then, he finally tells me at the last freaking minute as I'm walking out the door, "I have reviewed your symptoms that you went over & now I'm sure that you don't have any AN, or any tumur! You have MS! I am sure that that is what it is! All your symptoms add up to that! I said, "Are you sure??? Because you & the other doc have convinced me that I have this other crap, & now, your calling me right when I'm supposed to be walking out the door for my test & hold me up to tell me now that you've suddenly changed your mind & now, based on what I've told you--more than once--your now convinced that I have MS!? He said YES! THAT IS DEF.... WHAT I THINK/BELIEVE! IT'S DEF.... MS! THAT'S DEF..... WHAT YOU HAVE!So I have the tests done, but no tumors, & no lesions! But lack of lesions don't mean that you don't have MS!? It can 10-20yrs for any plaques or lesions to show up!? So then, I tell him, okay, are we just going to stop there & not go any further to find out what is wrong!? He had told me that if that came back okay that he was going to do some special bloodwork!? WHICH NEVER EVER GOT DONE!!! Then, at much proding on my part to find an answer he ordered a seizure test--which came back okay--according to him! And, then again, he did not do the bloodwork that he said that he would do! Then, I'm like well, SOMETHING IS DEFINATELY WRONG HERE! I have all the symptoms of MS & even that stupid doctor that sent me here has been telling me for quiet a while now that in his opinion I have MS!? Cause not only doe my symptoms add up to it, but his sister-in-law has it also & my symptoms are presenting just like hers! And, all I know is I have all the symptoms of MS & ain't nobody doing anything about it!!! Nobody is listening to me! All the docs are treating me like I'm freaking crazy, when this or something like it is wrong! All I know is that my life is being turned upside down with all these horrible symptoms & aweful things happening to me!!! And, I just want some answers!!! Why can't them or a Neuro like you give me some answers here!? Then, he orders these sensory test! I went on my own to a ENT & told him my plite, & he did a hearing sensory test, which showed some mild sensory hearing loss in my rt ear! And, he said that he thought I had early stages of MS too! Said that every one of his patients that had come to him complaining of the symptoms that I was complaining of, wound up having MS a few years down the road! He said that all of his patients that came in complaining of visual--ie. blurry in one eye one day with no warning, or double vision, etc...;& was checked out by an eye specialists who found nothing directly wrong with my vision! Eye doc said that it was either the part of my brain that controls my vision, seizures, or MS! And, the other was ruled out! So, ENT doc said that when he had had patients come there & complain with visual disturbances, & ear disturbances--heart beat, mild hearing loss in one ear, etc... & esp..... when they complained about all the other MS related symptoms that I was complaining of, that all of those patients had went on to have MS! But, in the mean time he diagnosed me with vestibular migraines as well! And, put me on a med. Which has been a miracle pill for me! Has helped a ton with my spasms & spasticity, with my headaches/migraines, & with the anxiety & depression that all this was causing! So, back to neuro! He did the eye & limbs sensory test! The tester guy said that I definately had something showing up, & that it was all really weird the way the tests were going on me!? Then, neuro--Wiseman tells me on the phone that in fact some problems did show up but was still in what they call the normal range!? So, again, I say, OKAY!? SO WHAT IS IT??? I have all the symptoms of MS! Several docs say that all my symptoms refer to early MS! Even my ENT! And, things were definately weird & something did show up on these tests!? And, just let me say that my ENT is the best! I have had this doc for many years!!! For me, my family, my son! He

Dr. Wiseman saw me promptly. He took his time, listened very carefully, included me when looking at my test results (MRI on computer), and made a careful diagnosis. I especially liked the fact that he gave me feedback as he went through the exam - letting me know that I was performing the tasks well.
