Dr. Brian Benedict Zilka, MD

Unethical and incompetent. This is the type of physician that triggers veterans into putting guns in their mouths. I needed to see someone in community care because for some reason the VA continues with the mask mandate and I cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons. This isn't a choice as I am a nurse and was unable to work after a short time due to the mask mandates causing me to uncontrollably sneeze, sweat and become short of breath. I have a history of severe asthma as well as some copd. This isn't because I don't want to wear one. Yet Dr Zilka decided unilaterally and without speaking to me decided I could simply not receive the medical care that I was entitled to. As a matter of point no physician offices in my area are requiring or having people wear masks it is solely the VA. Dr. Zilka had no interest in finding out why I couldn't wear a mask he simply made that decision. This is not a competent or compassionate provider by any sense of the word. This is… also the basis of malpractice since he was making a decision about my healthcare without so much as speaking to me. I would point out that this is an epidemic throughout the VA community. The physicians are not held to any type of standards or expectation. They simply do whatever they want. It's ironic that a veteran shot himself in the head at a VA hospital in Florida and left a note that it's likely over 90% of suicides by veterans are the result of being frustrated and mired in bureaucracy at the VA. He shot himself in the parking lot of the VA with his medical records in his hand. We can thank a broken system and people like Brian Zilka for creating those situations.
