Brodie Edens Mckoy, MD

Dr Mckoy is an excellent surgeon. I am 16 days out from total knee replacement surgery. I can walk around my house as of yesterday and have done home health Care physical therapy 4 times. I have one more week of home health before I do P.T. Twice a week. I have home exercises twice a day. I still have the big bandage bandaid. He and all of his staff and his nurse, Fred have been responsive and quick to follow through. Their joint coach, Tammy was great, as well. I met with her 2 hours the day before surgery since I couldn’t go to the required joint class. I am very thankful thus far with this experience. I have had a lot of difficulties with my knees after age 54 after a fall walking my dogs. I had scar tissue from being a cheerleader many years ago and osteoarthritis now in my knees and thumb joint. You will be making the best decision if you go with Dr McKoy. He told me the evening after surgery that my knee was really bad. On a scale of 1 to 10 it was an 87. No cartilage or… meniscus left, bone spurs and Baker’s cyst. I knew I was in trouble because I was in so much pain especially when I was still and at night. I am so glad I went to him. He was my second opinion. I knew almost immediately he was the right dr for me. His surgery coordinator, Ann was great and his office staff friendly and helpful. Shana M.

Had extreme knee pain, before even talking to anyone they put me in the line for x-rays. Very long wait (hour plus past arrival time) and exacerbated the pain. When I did see the doctor his immediate comment was double partial knee replacement in both knees based on x-ray only. I tried to tell him my issues were sudden and not typical of arthritis. He literally would not listen at all. Simply went through the spiel of what a replacement entails and how great it is that I'm a candidate for one. I never went back. Found a doctor who realized the issue was caused by a different leg bone issue and pain was muscular not arthritis. I'm doing great and no surgery required. I just wish the Dr. McKoy would actually listen to patients' real issues instead of immediately going the route of what is allowed by insurance.

We moved away from Charleston to Florida over a year ago. I would drive back to Charleston for his expertise and genuine care for his patients. I can not say enough about Dr. McKoy.....except that I wish he was here in Florida ?? Most Sincerely Mrs. Jennifer Oidtman

My fiancé had a bicep tenodesis and rotator cuff debridement procedure nine months ago. We literally pulled into the equivalent of a trailer and parking lot. The medical staff was nonchalant and literally treated him like a number. There was no bedside manner whatsoever. When I saw him in recovery afterwards, I was at a loss. He was in agony, crying, shivering, and in very sorry state. Once we returned home, the pain that my fiancé endured, and continued to endure until this very day was unbearable. When he had a severe allergic reaction to the pain meds the evening after the surgery, nobody from either the "so called hospital", nor Dr. Mckoy's office returned my calls. He has been in agony, and has rapidly been losing the use of his right arm and hand since. Today he had a surgery at MUSC to correct and rectify all of the damage caused by the surgery under Dr McKoy. The difference in treatment was incomparable. What a pleasant difference. I would not recommend Dr McKoy to my worst… enemy. What he put my fiancé through was inhumane.

Dr. McKoy is an excellent physician who takes time to hear what his patients are saying. I would recommend him for all of your orthopedic needs.

I had the WORST experience with this Surgeon. He did surgery on my right thumb for arthritis and he totally botched my hand. When I went back to him after the surgery, still in so much pain, he acted as though, he did not want to hear it. After several weeks going through therapy and agonizing pain, she recommended that I see another HAND SPECIALIST. The crazy thing was.....The day I walked into therapy, She said, Who sent you here? I said, Dr. McCoy. Her reply was, Dr. McCoy does not do hand surgery? My hand and arm were so bruised, it looked horrible. The therapist sent me home and said she was not touching me. She said that patients with my type of surgery were not sent to therapy for at least 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. I was only 2 weeks out of surgery. He explained the procedure to me a couple times before the surgery, but after I got out of surgery, he did a completely different procedure. With the recommendation of the therapist, I saw another hand specialist for a… second opinion. I had to have the surgery revised due to so much pain. I had pieces of bone floating in my hand that was part of what was causing some of the pain. He revised the surgery by doing the procedure that Dr. McCoy explained to me that he was going to do in the first place. I still live every day in pain, can not open jars, bottles, it is painful to even brush my teeth with my right hand! I have shed many tears, spent a lot of money for the second surgery and still can not use my hand as I once did...There is nothing the second doctor can do, the damage was already done by Dr. McCoy and it will never be the same.... .

He has a sweet manner and prays with you at the end of each visit - however I had the worse operative experience with him of my life. First: I had severe burns on the end of my nose and on my left arm, the nurse in the recovery room first brought it to my attention, but at that point I could not feel the burns. Dr, Mckoy would not take responsibility for this, saying he was working on my hip not near my face. But isn't he suppose to be the captain of the ship in this environment? Next I had a HUGE hematoma within days of the surgery and he did not seem interested at all, my husband finally demanded to speak with him and Dr. Mckoy call him from his home and said he would readmit me to the hospital. He told me the initially my surgery was a simple one and would be done microscopically, with no scaring but I now have the worse 4 inch scar and a huge indention at the operation site, this will have to be corrected by a plastic surgeon, he refused to pay for corrective repair of his terrible… work so now that cost is up to me to pay, on top of all my out-of-pocket costs! Bottom line: the WORSE medical experience of my life, NOTHING he did has helped me in any way. He NOW says I just have chronic bursitis. I literately hate him for what he has done to me and how he has treated me. I can not possibly be the only one...

Excellent. Doctors. Visit. Accurate. Diagnosis. Very satisfied with treatment.
