Rude. Dismissive. Will make a snap judgment that you're an alcoholic. Try reversing that with the FAA after he's made that recommendation to them. It took me 2 HIMS AME's after him, 2 Senior HIMS adictionologists, over 4 years of RANDOM alcohol and drug testing just to get him HIMS restricted medical and I'll be in HIMS for another 6 years at best. Find an AME that is at least willing to speak to you on the phone before getting you locked up with the FAA. STAY AWAY!!! I'm not the only one that has said this. I found similar reviews on pilot forums after my run in with Dr. Chien but that have been deleted.

Dr Chien specializes in hard to certify aviation medical cases. I consulted with him a few years ago and he was excellent. For a small fee he reviewed my case and filled me in on everything I needed to get done to get my certificate. Due to his distance from my home I did my certification with a local AME and was issued in a few weeks. This issuance was a direct result of Dr. Chien's knowledge and instruction to supply the FAA with all the records and tests necessary to certify my case at first submission. This knowledge is priceless.

Do not trust your FAA Medical on this guy. Find a respected local physician who isn’t a former pain medicine doctor, who will not take advantage of you. You’ll be better off and spend way way way less money.
