Dr. Bruce Alan Kerner, MD

Dr Kerner removed my colon cancer recently and owe him my life. No colostomy bag. Minimal discomfort. Great doctor!

I had laparoscopic colon surgery by Dr Kerner several years ago. He is direct and is not big on small talk, and if you know that going in, it will be fine. He was polite, and ask questions, and he'll answer them. For me, his knowledge, skill, and vast experience is most important, and my confidence in that, and my outcome, is why I was happy with Dr Kerner.

This doctor was not only rude and abrasive, he simply did not listen, and seems to be extremely narcissistic. Understanding the patient's concerns, fears, problems cannot possibly be a part of his common practice. The exam was needlessly painful. Surgery recover, horrific. If called upon, he seemed incredibly annoyed and put off, as though you were wasting his time. I expected recover to be painful, but considering some of the abnormal problems I had post-op, Dr. Kerner and his nurse were both very short and unhelpful and insisted I see my PCP for any issues as none of them had "nothing to do with the surgery." Like a broken record, i heard that over and over. Seven months later, I've not stopped being ill after this surgery. It turned out to be a nightmare for me, and I'm still sick and in pain. However, I'm fearful to enter his office, which is why I've chosen to go elsewhere. Never again. I feel sorry for his staff - having to work with someone like him. I hope he does… not treat his staff so poorly. Sadly, at this point, I do not know if he performed my surgery correctly - because I still have many issues. If by chance he did perform the surgery correctly, it is quite unfortunate, because it (now) has been overshadowed by his rude and deplorable demeanor. It is sad to see a doctor that may possess such skills to heal humans - treat people so inhumane. On the upside - his front desk staff was kind and pleasant.

Lectures, doesn't listen. Misdiagnosis. Arrogant.

As I read all of these past reviews, I agree that if you need hand holding and a family doctor type surgeon, Kerner is not the surgeon for you. If you want a surgeon who is highly qualified and experienced at what he does, this is definitely the surgeon for you. Dr. Kerner has performed 3 surgeries on me (2000, 2006, and 2010, resection, stricturplasty, intestinal fistula removal, and scar tissue removal, all from Crohns), and if I ever need another, I will search him out. If he is unable, I will make sure the surgeon I use is one he has recommended. I am always willing to give up a little "bedside manner" for a great surgeon. He will tell it like it is. If you can't handle it, you will miss out on a great surgeon.

I was sent home with little information about how to care for my wound& rectum. I was never called by Dr. Kerners office or Mt. Carmel hospital to ask how i was doing. It is terribly difficult to reach someone through his office for help. At post op exam he didn't speak to me until I asked a question. I felt like such a bother to him & most importantly am concerned the post op exam may have done more damage due to the rough, hurried manner of the exam.

Dr. Kerner is suppose to be the best in colon and rectal surgery, however, his bad attitude leave a lot to be desired. He acted like it was a bother for me to be in his office. He took very little time to explain what was happening to me and it was evident that he could care less. The more i asked different questions the more annoyed he became. I know people say he's the best but he is rude, cold, distant and flat out nasty.

I had a hemorroidectomy and fustulotomy done by another surgeon over ten years ago, but my insurance changed and he is no longer in my insurance network, so I have seen Dr. Kerner, who is in my network, 3 times in the past 2 years. I would not recommend Dr. Kerner to anyone who values being treated with dignity and respect, as I have received neither from him on any of my visits. He acts like seeing me is an annoyance, and doesn't want to listen to what I have to say and doesn't explain anything, is an arrogant, dismissive and uncaring or sympathetic doctor, who seems to want to get you in an out as quickly as feasbily possible. When i was trying to explain my concerns, he was making a pained look on his face and I commented that he looked pained, and he said "I'm listening", which I took to mean that it was painful for him to have to take a minute to listen to what I had to say. I saw him for the 3rd and last time yesterday, as I do not appreciated being disrespected and treated… like an annoyance.

This was my first visit to a doctor in a very long time. It was also my first time having a doctor do anything to my bum. For someone who has to deal with patients with "sensitive" problems, he is one of the least sensitive people I have ever met.He was abrupt, cold, and uncaring.By far the worst doctors visit I have had in 32 years.The office staff was nice at least.
