Dr. Bruce Andrew Orkin

I had been told by a less experienced surgeon in Dayton, Oh that I would probably have a permanent colostomy. Dr. Orkin quickly dispelled this notion, performed surgery and I was as good as new! He is a talented, gifted surgeon. My Dayton surgeon was hesitant about the fact that I had a fistula...in fact i had two, and Dr Orkin with his amazing skill removed 11 inches of diseased bowel. I have never felt better and am now 76 years old( operation occurred at Rush Hospital when I was 74!

He is EXCELLENT. Amazing bedside manner. Answers all my questions.

He is very serious surgeon. His bedside manners is horrible. He doesn't come out from his oval office. He has no concept of patients care. He thinks highly of himself. His nurse does all the job. If you get stuck with him then you are dusted. He is a good surgeon but however after the surgery he has a tendency to dump patients unless you are Monica Lewensky!

This Dr. has the worst bedside manner I have ever witnessed and I should know I am a Nurse.Thanks to him I have to live without the love of my life. He lied to us and made him wait so long for his procedure that he had many complication.I miss my husband so much. I wish I had gone to MGH or Brigham and Womans. I will regret this for the rest of my life

Dr. Orkin is an extremely distant, cold, and serious physician. I remember meeting him for the first time: I gave him a big smile, but he didnt bother to return my smile or fully acknowledge me. He made me feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Dr. Orkin simply wasnt friendly; he was quiet and withdrawn and came off as arrogant and judgmental. At that first appointment, I started to become nervous because he was so serious. Having a rectal exam and anoscopy is embarrassing as it is, and my exam with Dr. Orkin was even more difficult because even though he was professional, his aloof demeanor made me feel extremely apprehensive, anxious, and tense. However, I was very impressed with Dr. Orkin's preparation for my appointment; he had thoroughly studied my complicated colorectal history and had become very familiar with my case before meeting with me. He also seems dedicated to patient education; after my outpatient exams, he reviewed his findings with me and spent time talking to me about… anatomy, my condition, and a plan of care. I was given written information and diagrams that Dr. Orkin customized to my needs so I had a clear understanding of my problems.During my last appointment with Dr. Orkin, I was very upset after he gave me some bad news. Dr. Orkin failed to relate to me or comfort me in any way; he was by far the most detached and remote physician Id ever seen. I appreciate his dedication to patient education and although he may be a talented surgeon, bedside manner and the ability to put patients at ease is very important in patient care.

I've been a patient of Dr. Orkin for the past 11 years. He's not only a gifted surgeon, but a dedicated professional who holds a genuine concern for his patients. I've been to more than a few doctors over the years, and Dr. Orkin is definitely the best in his field!
