Dr. Bruce Joseph Roth, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Roth's for the last 4 plus years. Pretty good, given that the urologist who referred me to him had given me 2 to 4 yrs as a prognosis. I am delighted with the care I have received, though I do understand how some of the negative impressions could be left. I was once very frustrated with his nurse and his manner, but once I came to understand how the system worked, I came to appreciate them very much. Michele, who is no longer working as Dr. Roth's nurse, could be a frustrating personality at first, but her allegiance to the doctor was supreme. Once we learned to work together within the confines of the system, she did amazing things for me, dealing with insurance companies, RX requirements, clinical trials, referrals to other doctors, scheduling adjustments, and so many more. Dr. Roth himself is a superb doctor. I cannot imagine a more informed person, so knowledgeable about current research and treatments. He isn't super warm and cuddly, but he… takes so many patients in very difficult cases, it has to be that way as a form a self-protection. Imagine if everyone you interact with on a customer basis were gravely ill, many or most with terminal conditions. Getting emotionally close to individual patients would be devastating emotionally over time. He is not big on giving out percentages or speculating on how things may go. He is indeed compassionate, and he treats the patient, not just the numbers. Everybody and every cancer is different. There is no guesswork, just data and experienced judgement. I can live with that! I can't imagine being in better hands.

I left Dr. Roth, his nurse Michelle and Siteman for several reasons. I have written my complaints to the HIPPA agency at Washington University inAug of 2016 expressing to them my concerns about treatment. I was treated with complete indifference and incredulous comments by those in charge. My complaints were not even put into my file by those in charge and it was only because of my persistence and a stroke of luck that I found someone who eventually added my amendments and complaints to my file. Basically, my infusion went wrong and liquids were given to me out of sequence and incorrectly. How did I know this, the two nurses on staff told me so. I would have never known had not both of them told me so. I was shocked, scared and being a new patient who had put his complete trust into Barnes and its outstanding reputation not to sure what to do. I knew if I complained there would probably be trouble and I was right. After discussions and talks with Dr. Roth and Michelle, I was assured… that everything would be ok. Not so. After only three treatments my neuropathy in my feet was horrble and I could hardly walk. After their investigation by some head nurse who was not present, she claimed procedure was followed and no mistake was made. I went to check my medical records and saw that the incidents I described had been totally whitewashed and gave no indication of the mistakes that were made. I contacted my attorney and he told me that Barnes had the best Attorneys and that it would basically be my word against theirs and they would probalbly not tell the truth. it would cost me a lot of money to judicate and he did not want to take my money on a case that I would probably not win. I would not recommend dealing with Dr. Roth, his assistant Michelle and Sitemea in general. I had an outstanding surgeon, but the hospital stay after my operation was absolutely horrible. I ended up sleeping in the hallway instead of my room because the patient next to me was out of control and the noise was unbearable. Go to Siteman if you Wish, the equipment is up to date and most of the techs are friendly and helpful. However.....Be careful who you chose. I had to quit Barnes Sitemean becasue of my treatment, my written complaints, my whitewashing of my medical treatments and a genuine fear of returning to a place where I was treated rudely by the HIPPA people at Washington University. I was also fearful of retraliation in some way, and I had to seek medical treatment at another facility, Mercy Hospital, for which I was very thankful and have received outstanding care. My medical information, that which has not been whitewashed, is all contained in my medical records. I WAS NEVER GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE MY COMPLAINTS TO A HIGHER AUTHORTY CONCERNING MY TREATMENT AT BARNES. So this it it. Be cautious. Looks can be deceiving reviews can be misleading. What I said is true and all contained in my medical records.

My husband had Dr. Roth for 2 years before he passed away. My husband was in the hospital at least 5 times and Dr. R never showed his face and his office was right there. Also my husband wanted the truth and he asked over & over and Dr. Roth would never tell him. His assistant Michele is the devil herself. She has absolutely no bedside manner whatsoever. My husband suffered tremendously on his deathbed and I had to beg her one time to admit him to the hospital for the pain that he was in. I would never ever recommend this man for anything. He may know his medicine but he has no knowledge of how to treat people .
