Dr. Bryan Andrew Bertoglio, MD

I cannot say enough about this man. Although I do not remember much of my 2 week stay at Alexian Bros Nero ICU, I remember a couple of visits from the doctor. I had a ruptured aneurysm that required emergency coiling, and he was able to stop the bleeding, monitior my recovery closely, and send me home 15 days later with hardly ANY lasting issues. I realize some of this is pure luck, but I'll roll my dice with Dr Bertoglio any day.

I have never done this before because I've never felt the need with any other doctor. My experience with him was awful. I had spinal fusion surgery with him 3 years ago and was told my walking would improve 50 to 70 % which it has not, even with numerous PT sessions over the past three years. Aside from that, he has the worse patient doctor interaction I've ever experienced. First appointment kept us waiting in the exam room for over an hour without word or consideration for us. Never looked me in the eye while speaking, never came to see me post surgery, was going to send me home with a neck brace in a wheelchair even though I was told if I tripped for fell I could be paralyzed. Fortunately, my family doctor said I needed to go to a nursing home for 6 weeks of rehab. When I went back to Dr. B after six weeks,, he had me remove my own neck brace because that was probably beneath him. His only saving grace is his PA, Stephine. My point is: there are a million other… neurosurgeons. Go to them. No one needs or deserves this treatment. Get a personality and get over yourself doctor.

Dr. Bertoglio operated on my son. During the initial visit, we were a little put off because he's very quiet and reserved - almost no personality at all. However, after careful consideration and obtaining a second opinion, we left a message for his office with several questions regarding the procedure. Not only did we get a call back the same day, but at 7:30pm from HIM - not a nurse, assistant or secretary. That said a lot for us. Since this was an unusual case, he also sought out advice from other surgical colleagues to weigh in on the best approach. It became very clear that he was very conservative and careful about all of his cases. He was very careful with his incision since it was in a prominent place and was very good about addressing all of our concerns. In post-op, he was thorough and honest about how the surgery went and what to expect. He visited with us each day until our son was released and the PICU nurses had nothing but rave reviews of him while we were… there. We would recommend Dr. Bertoglio to anyone who required any neurological or spinal surgery. Look past your first impression and you'll find a very conservative, gentle, caring surgeon.

Dr. Bertoglio is a very soft spoken, gentle man who is knowledgeable and used the least invasive and safest approach to surgery. He is kind with a comforting bedside manner. He takes time to answer all questions and explains procedures for laymen to understand. He is a highly skilled and dedicated surgeon and is an asset to his profession. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a neurosurgeon.

We were blessed to end up in the care of Dr. Bertoglio. My son was diagnosed with a brain tumor and 3 days later Dr Bertoglio performed a crainiotomy and removedthe tumor. He was a pillar of calm and reassurance during an overwhelmingly difficult time. His care and that of his staff members, whether in the hospital or at follow up appointments during the past 3 years, is exemplary. He's patient, kind and never rushes us. Genuinely interested in my son and his quality of life. Related to him on a personal level and was eager to see him return to athletics and head off to college. He is very skilled and knowledgeable. Very thankful for his guidance and lucky to be a patient of his.

Dr. Bertoglio is an amazing surgeon. He did my daughter's back closure and shunt surgery when she was born. He has always treated my daughter with love and patience. He also revised her shunt 3 times and has always done an excellent job. He is very passionate and loves what he does. I don't trust anyone with my daughter beside him.

After we left the hospital to go to rehab we didn't hear anything from the doctor or support staff , I called with a concern and got very little help no calls I didn't even know when to make a post op appointment had to guess and it took 3 unanswered messages to actually reach someone , so the follow up could be managed better otherwise everything else Went very well

I love dr bertoglio. He is the only de I would trust with my spine.

Our daughter had spina bifida and a host of other problems related to it and Dr. Bertoglio had done a wonderful job with it all . He listens to everything we tell him and always makes time to check on her. Dr. Bertoglio and the staff at alexian brothers women and children's hospital are the best I have ever met. I recommend them to everyone.
