Dr. Bryce Earl Potter, DDS

Dr. Potter was the first dr that actually took the time to diagnose me properly and treat me for degenerative disc disease. He did an excellent surgery and the scarring on both sides of my face is almost none.

What I look for in a doctor: professional courtesy, interest in understanding my condition, and a competent office staff that provides timely communication and followup. Unfortunately, I found none of these at Dr. Potter's office.

Doctor Potter 2nd visit: You know that lump in your neck I didn't feel last time? Well it is even smaller now. I know the needle biopsy showed cancer cells but take another course of antibiotics and come back in 6 months. I don't think its cancer. I went to OHSU 2 weeks later and the surgeon said that he would operate because he could not tell what the lump was without removing it. The lump was squamous carcinoma, stage 3. If I waited for Potter, I would be stage 4 and probably dead.

When I last spoke with this office I promised to complain everywhere I could about the way I had been treated. Here we go: I saw Dr. Potter because my jaw had stopped working one day. He started by asking me why I suddenly cared about my health since I had clearly ignored a problem with my jaw for many years. No questions, just an assumption that I was an idiot who had never thought to ask a doctor about the popping in my jaw. When I came for my second appointment I checked in with the front desk and sat down. The front desk person clearly forgot I was there as she took calls from patients and, every time she hung up with one of them, talked about what idiots they were. After 45 minutes I went back to the front desk to remind her that I was waiting on an appointment and she looked stunned. She said that they had prepared a room so she didn't know why I hadn't been called back. I then saw her pick up my chart and finally take it back. When she walked me back she said they had been… waiting on test results to be faxed over and that was the delay. When I asked Dr. Potter what results they were waiting on it became clear she was lying. I let Dr. Potter know about the situation and he asked me to give a full report to his office manager. I did this and she stated she would follow up with me within the next day or two. I never heard from her. After being told I needed surgery I was asked to meet with Jennifer, their scheduling person. She let me know that I would be required to pay everything up front and that it would be between 2 and 3 thousand dollars depending on my insurance. I let her know that I wouldn't be able to afford that and she offered the solution of CareCredit. She told me that they had a special with them that allowed for 12 months interest free financing. I applied for the service and was approved so we moved forward with the surgery. When I received my first bill from CareCredit it showed that I had 6 months interest free instead of 12 months. I called Jennifer and asked why this was the case and her response was just to repeat "I would never have said that it was for 12 months." I am sure anyone who has had any major medical procedure knows you are still battling insurance and working through claims for months to come. 8 months after my surgery I still could not get a bill to a different office paid. I called the insurance again and they told me that the bill was going toward my deductible. Well, this couldn't be... I paid my deductible to Dr. Potter's office, I say. The insurance tells me that they show I paid Dr. Potter's office $661.00 instead of the $2300.00 that I actually paid them. When I call Dr. Potter's office (conveniently after the interest kicked in on what I had financed) they said they did show a $1700.00 credit on my account. I asked why it hadn't been refunded and was told they hadn't realized it was there. I pushed that someone had put in the explanation of benefits from my insurance company showing that they had paid more than expected and this person clearly saw I had overpaid and was told "Well, that person didn't tell us." The woman I spoke with was argumentative and defensive but did get the check sent to me and it arrived the next day. What I wonder is... how many patients do they do this to? How much interest do they collect over the years by holding on to other people's money? And are they somehow in bed with CareCredit? WHAT A MESS!

I had tmj surgery with Dr Potter many years ago. I would go back there again, IF I needed any surgery. No, he does not hold your hand, and no he is not a Dr Welby, but he is a top notch surgeon and to me, that is all that matters. I am an RN and I rather have a top notch surgeon then a hand holder any old day.

If you are looking for a doctor that cares about his patients and a staff that will call you back and communicate with you DONT GO HERE!!!! I have been a patient with Dr Potter for over a year now and finally got approved for my oral surgery. IV been in so much pain and have been waiting to have this surgery for 20 years and finally things were coming together until...Dr Potters staff told me that I would have to come up with $6000 up front for the surgery!!! Wth!!!! Ummm how come they didn't tell me that earlier to give me time to save or something. I'm very upset with how unprofessional their office is and how "out of tune" they are with their patients. These are the most recent issues from a long list of problems i have had with them. Save your money and save your time.

Dr. Potter performed tmj surgery and a lot more for me about 12 years ago. I found this site while looking him up as I want a consult with him again. I agree with the person that stated Potter is straight up - he is! He tells you exactly as it is - I really liked that.As far as hand holding- i don't require much but during one procedure - the dye in face prior to diagnose for tmj - wow - I was in stunning pain and i swear he felt miserable watching me!Yes, he did space a couple of things, but in this day and age i believe we need to pay attention to our own health care - I space things in my life as well. When I brought it to his attention, yep, done and done.As I said, I'm going to be making an appt with him - if you're looking for up front, a quality I find rare in physicians these days, go to potter.

Is a very knowledgeable Dr and knows his profession. Some of the other doctors in this profession cause more problems with their way of doing TMJ surgery and recovery. Dr. Potter is not a hand holder, but someone who knows what he is doing and then gets it done. Yes, his bedside manner is lacking, but I'd rather have someone who doesn't give me a lot of baloney and tells me directly what it is, how it will be fixed and a pretty accurate time line on recovery and healing. His staff and he are very task oriented and not a lot of wasted time. He performed TMJ surgery on my wife and she has been nothing but pleased with the way the surgery has progressed so far. We would recommend Dr. Potter to anyone who is considering or who needs to have TMJ surgery. He is great!
