Dr. Carissa Marie Ross, MD

I am incredibly prone to infections, unfortunately. Thought sometimes being a female, it’s hard to know which one is causing the suffering. Dr. Ross has gotten me in to test for these and thankfully always trusted that I know my body. She never makes me feel insecure or like I am an imposition. This is my first pregnancy and it’s been pretty terrifying. She even offered to check me more often just to ensure we wouldn’t miss anything and cause unnecessary harm to my baby. She’s a gem. Truly.

Dr. Ross was an amazing doctor; she was knowledgeable, respectful, and very personable. She explained everything to me and my husband in terms that we could understand and made us feel very comfortable. I knew going into my delivery that we were in great hands and I completely trusted her decision making. I recommend her to everyone that asks for an OB and I can't wait to have her for our next baby.

I chose to go to Dr. Ross due to the many positive experiences I heard from others and so I picked her to be my OB. This was my first pregnancy and so I was new to the whole experience with prenatal care etc. I knew nothing of the tests at the time. My first appointment with Dr. Ross was also my last with her because of how terribly things turned. She offered to give me a free ultra sound (on a very old ghetto looking machine) since she wasn't at my first appointment at that office. My husband and I of course agreed because we wanted to see our baby again. I had just turned ten weeks that day and so on the ultra sound you could see my little wiggly gummy bear looking baby. Seconds after looking at the baby Dr. Ross got all concerned and said she thinks our baby has an abornmality. My husband and my heart dropped. She rushed us into get a real ultra sound in the ultra room and after looking at our baby for no longer then a few seconds Dr. Ross said, "Yes it's what I thought you're baby… has an abnormality and has a 50% chance of having Down syndrome, if not Down syndrome then the baby will have Turner syndrome and if not that then a heart defect. You'll have to have a high risk pregnancy doctor, and you may have to be flown to portland for a c-section delivery. However, the benefit of finding out early is you can still terminate the pregnancy." I was still sitting on the ultra sound table. My husband standing there in shock. I was crying in disbelief. What? Abnormality? Did she really just suggest an abortion? That appointment came to an end with my husband and I both in shock and not sure what to think. As we researched further we discovered that she was out of line to say any of that to us in fact Dr. Ross completely jumped the gun. We hadn't had an NT test done which is the first set of testing to determine abnormalities. Also NT testing isn't performed until you are 12 weeks due to earlier testing causing false abnormal results. She scared us and made us completely depressed until we were able to find a new doctor a few weeks later, which our new doctor was baffled by Dr. Ross' actions. Needless to say with a healthy happy baby in my arms now... I have felt the urge to share my experience in order to show another side to Dr. Ross since I had received such positive feedback when I chose her initially.

We couldn't have asked for a better obgyn for our first birth. Dr. Ross was attentive, knowledgeable, calm and dedicated. We always heard the doctor plays such a small role in the actual birth, but Dr. Ross was not only great throughout the pregnancy, she made the delivery go as smooth as possible. We would highly recommend Dr. Ross to any expectant parents.
