Dr. Carl David Bakken, MD

Very disappointed in Dr Bakken and his 'knowledge' of infectious diseases after so many years of him being a professional in this specific field. I came to his office for help with my RECURRING EPSTEIN BARR, which I have had issues with for the past 12 months. I was hoping that a doctor with so many years of experience would be able to help me, but instead he was stuck in medical understandings from decades gone by... not new factors and scientific proof from todays modern medical. He proceeded to tell me that, even though my tests show 3 issues with EBV in the past 12 months, that he does NOT believe in recurring epstein barr.... even with bloodwork pointing to it. I asked what his answer was for my positive blood tests, and for why EBV keeps recurring in me, and he said "I have no answers for you". So he told me I had the virus recurring... but that he also doesnt believe in the virus recurring? THEN, after I told him that 2 of my children and my husband have… diagnosed with Lyme disease... he proceeded to tell me that you can only have Lyme disease if you find a tick on you, if you dont find the tick... you dont have Lyme. I asked: So... it cant bit on your hair, or belly button?... or somewhere you dont see? Just a smile/smirk is all I was given. Doctor Bakken... not everyone finds the tick that infected you. Not everyone has, or finds, the bullseye rash. IN ADDITION, he set me up for a ct scan of my abdomen. To check for other possible issues such as Lymphoma. He said "Im not saying you have lymphoma, but let's check". When I made the appointment for the ct, they were unable to get me in for 6 days.. SIX DAYS OF WAITING TO SEE IF I HAD CANCER. I kindly asked him to see if he can expedite and get me in soon.. his reply "NO, THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL EMERGENCY". So confused... so the possibly of lymphoma is not a medical emergency? Maybe not to you.. but to ME, it surely is. I was able to call the ct center and move the appointment up myself, thankfully. Time to reevaluate, and reeducate, on infectious diseases like EBV and Lyme. Also, learning kinder bedside manner would be appreciated for all patients, I'm sure.

Dr. Bakken has been my primary physician for over 20 years. I have always found him attentive, caring, accessible, and accurate.
