Dr. Carl Thomas Hasselman, MD

Very untrustworthy. He denied nerve damage to my ankle even though he is the one who identified it prior. Denied CRPS even though he was the one to make the diagnosis and send me to pain specialists. He consistently lied in his medical notes. He made statements and claims that were false. He charged my insurance for procedures he did not do, such as setting a fracture in my foot. Do not trust what he tells you in the office. He is very quick to deny what was said.

I cannot express how pleased I was to choose Dr. Hasselman to perform my ankle surgery. It was a very serious injury and I cannot believe the progress I am making after I had my surgery. Save yourself some time and go right to him because he is the man! Love this doctor and am so impressed with his work. I can’t thank him enough for getting me back on two feet before I know it!

Dr. acted like a super hero. Did not listen to me when I talked about my life style. Told me I could drive in 2 weeks, but did not tell me I would be non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. When I wanted to see him after the surgery, he was on medical leave.

Everything Dr. Hasselman told me about my foot surgery was 100% on point!! No surprises!! I HIGHLY recommend this doctor for his ability, friendliness, and phenomenal bedside manner!! Would NEVER hesitate to have a surgery with Dr. Hasselman!! The BEST!!!

Don't waste your time if you have foot or anke issues, go straight to Dr. Hasselman.

He did an ankle biopsy diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis. Saw his associates for removal of bandages. Didn't get to see Dr. Hasselman. They referred me to rheumatologist who asked why I was seeing him because I didn't have rheumatoid arthritis. I said Hasselman's office referred me and I had referral paper to prove it. When I initially checked my UPMC personal site, diagnosis was rheumatoid arthritis. I checked it after rheumatologist appointment, and it was changed.

I haven't needed to see him in several years, but he is the best!!

Dr. Hasselman is the absolute best doctor that I have ever gone to. He is a top notch surgeon but also considers other possibilities other than surgery. He is a caring and compassionate person that really cares about his patients. I would never go to anyone but him!! His personality and expertise far exceed anyone's expectations.

I thought Dr Hasselman was the best surgeon in the city but I did not have any experiences to compare him with. He performed bunionecty fusions on both feet and after the two years of follow up I still experienced pain in my right foot, with considerable problems with hammer toes as well. I short, I changed to Dr. Karl Saltrick and my patient experience was amazingly different. I never waited longer than 5 minutes from the time of my appointment and he spent at least 20 minutes with me, thoroughly going over my X-rays and mri and Cavan to explain why the first surgery failed and what I needed to have done. This was far from what I experienced with Dr. Hasselman, who I never saw within 45 minutes of my appointment, never looked at my X-rays and never spent more than 10-12 minutes at a time with. The differences were day and night. I had praised Dr H, like many others before and after me. But it seems that his popularity means that he is now operating a machine, cranking patients in… and out as his quality of care diminishes. I would not recommend him at all now. He is NOT worth the LONG wait, crowded waiting rooms and little patient-surgeon time. I do recommend the AHN Foot and Ankle Institute, particularly Dr. Karl Saltrick. He and his staff will treat you like you really matter, instead of a number on an assembly line. And the Institute's patient rooms are far more accommodating than St. Margaret's. It's too bad that I had to go through extensive surgery to discover the difference, but trust me, there is a huge one. Do not go through the assembly line like I did. Go to someone who really cares.
