Dr. Carl Joseph Westcott, MD

a day ago I’m a 79-year-old female with severe rotated hiatal hernia, heart problems, no family or relatives within 1000 miles, Live alone and was concerned about the extensive surgery I needed. My initial visit with him I was told by Dr. Westcott that I was “overreacting. “ upon my admission to the hospital prepping for surgery I never saw Dr. Westcott in the prep room, nor in the surgical room, nor in the recovery room. When I woke up from surgery I couldn’t breathe and was in excruciating pain. I was not given anything except oxycodone which does not lessen the pain for me. I was in recovery for over four hours screaming in agony. I was brought up to my room still with no pain medication to eliminated or lessen the pain and did not see Dr. Westcott until 10 o’clock in the morning which was over 12 hours since my surgery. He said he would order additional pain medication but I did not get it until 11 o’clock that night..24 hours AFTER surgery. Before surgery he was instructed to… contact my son in MA and my friend who was staying at the hospital with me. He contacted my son and never contacted my friend in the hospital. And I was discharged finally from the hospital & my recovery was extremely severe had to have people staying with me the whole time. I never received any calls from the hospital following discharge. Patient care at the hospital informed me that Dr. Westcott never issued the instructions for them to contact me upon my arrival at home after discharge and that was highly unusual. Hospital was very upset that this was not done by Dr. Wescott.To this day I am still having problems that are severe and debilitating. I reported him to North Carolina medical Association and they have him under investigation. I don’t ever want anyone to go through what I went through. This was severe negligence on Dr. Westcott’s part. There are more things that fall under negligence by Dr. Westcott but I don’t have room to put them all in here.I would not recommend Dr. Westcott to my worst enemy.

Dr. Westcott is a FANTASTIC SURGEON !!!

First, he was so sweet, kind and probably a great surgeon but didn't know anything of my rate auto immune disease. He kind of knew my diagnosis but did not want to do surgery to find out cause. Think he likes bigger more challenging cases. I still do not want to give him up.

Dr. Wescott is a great surgeon & caring professional. I would recommend him to anyone as being A+++
