Dr. Carl Wierks, MD

Carl Weirks performed an unnecessary and botched hip arthroscopy on me. Other doctors told me after the operation by looking at the MRIs I had beforehand that it shouldn’t have been performed. He also shaved an appalling amount of bone from my hip. Post-operation I had the symptoms of a torn labrum, which did not exist prior to operation. My pain increased substantially post operation and I have massive scars. Follow-up was minimal and my concerns were ignored. My body is permanently damaged and I live in pain every moment from allowing Dr. Wierks to operate. Don’t make the same mistake.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience with Dr. Wierks, his PA Kevin and all of the staff at West MI Ortho and Grand Rapid Surgical Suites for my left and right hip replacement surgeries due to joint degeneration from hip dysplasia. I am 3 weeks out from the last replacement and I have to remind myself that I am still in recovery, as there hasn't been any pain since soon after surgery. Also, he called the dysplasia after 3 or 4 doctors through the years thought it was simply a back/disc issue. Dr. Wierks and his crew are very kind, responsive and patient. I am so excited to be pain-free finally!

Dr and all classes and advice were to start therapy immediately. Post surgery, Dr said no weight restrictions, staples out in 14 days, multiple times. Staff scheduled NO THERAPY, and staples out in 30 days. Why did the Dr say we need to start in home therapy same week of release and then no allow therapy, even when he was saying post surgery therapy needed to start and was EXTREMELY important? His staff ordered therapy from a place that didn't work near my home, but wouldn't tell me who, and wouldn't let us change to a new therapist that would come to my house. And then, staples shouldn't stay in 30 days, and Dr said remove in 14, then the staff wanted 30. It has been a horrible experience and I recommend finding a different doctor, one that doesn't tell you one thing to your face, his staff tells you another, and then won't even meet with you post surgery to discuss. He's great to your face, but too many lies and deception after he does work. I don't know who is lying, the Dr or his… staff, but ultimately he is responsible for his staff and nothing they said pre or post surgery did they follow through on.

Dr. Wierks did a great job on my hip replacement. He was very easy to talk with and knowledgeable. It was easy to get appointments with him when I needed to see him. The surgery and recovery were swift. His staff are all wonderful. They are very helpful and answer the phone for questions or usually get back within an hour of leaving a message. A very cheerful, responsive office. Thank you!

I'm an active 53 year old. Dr. Wierks performed a knee arthroscopy (meniscectomy) on my right knee on 3-8-19. Prior to surgery I had limited range of motion and a tooth ache like pain in my knee. From the moment I woke up from surgery, my pain was eliminated and I achieved full range of motion with a few days. I did not have to take one pain pill. Dr. Wierks provided a very thorough explanation of what to expect before and after surgery as well. He has the golden touch.

I was skeptical at first because of some reviews from patients who were likely above so-called ideal BMI. Nonetheless, I trusted my referring Ortho (Michigan Ortho) due to the complexities with my hip injury. Dr. Wierks was prepared, actively listened to my history and concerns, was candid about what would or wouldn't work, and very eager to help me regain my quality of life. He came highly regarded and I now know why. Surgery scheduling was painless with a methodical process to set patients up for success. It was well worth the drive!

Dr Wierks is a wonderful and caring physician. I had a lateral tear that required surgery. He did a wonderful job with the surgery and follow up.

Dr. Wierks is tremendous! Personable, honest, gave explanations easy to understand and came very highly recommended. My surgery was a success and I was well taken care of. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Wierks to anyone needing a top-level surgeon.

Went to Dr. Weirks with hip pain. He diagnosed me with a labral tear and recommended surgery. I was having the surgery done because I am a runner and wanted to get back to running. Less than 6 months after the surgery I have severe arthritis in that same hip and no can't walk without pain let alone run. Highly disappointed and would not recommend Dr. Weirks
