Dr. Carla J Hellekson, MD

I have been seeing Dr Hellekson for at least 10 years. She has been an invaluable resource for managing my life and helping me make positive changes. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis which is frequently treated with bi-polar medication and anti-depressants. She has helped me eliminate the bi-polar medication. Dr Hellekson has provided invaluable advice on lifestyle changes and other options (sleep habits, meditation, acupuncture, books to read) that have helped me feel better. I appreciate her style and willingness to consider all options not just a medication. It’s been a wonderful journey working with her.

I started seeing Dr. Hellekson about 10 years ago after being incorrectly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, etc. Carla immediately recognized that I was suffering from ADHD and placed me on the correct medication. Since that time she has continued to monitor my health and I am happy to say that I am living a happy and healthy life not affected by my illness. I strongly recommend Dr. Hellekson to anyone looking for a professional, caring and knowledgeable psychiatrist.

The wait time is 0 minutes, but that wasn't an option. Dr. Hellekson is a well respected professional who is known in her field. I have found her to have a growth mindset and open to many options to addressing issues. She takes a holistic approach and is very respectful and knowledgeable. I appreciate being able to see a Dr. who is wise, ethical, and comfortable and curious.

I was suffering from pretty severe insomnia for a period of months, and it was starting to interfere with my productivity at work and my quality time with my daughter. Dr. Hellekson was extremely thorough and patient with me at our initial intake visit, which immediately set me at ease. I have since completed three of four sessions of "Sleep School," which have taught me a lot about the physiology of sleep, as well as techniques for falling (and staying) asleep. Dr. Hellekson also has me on a much better medication regime than what I had before, so I am taking less medication, but feeling a whole lot better. I have already recommended friends to Dr. Hellekson, and would do so again in a heart-beat.

Dr. Hellekson has experience, professionalism, and a great deal of knowledge! She asked all the right questions to find the perfect medication for me. After suffering through many wrong medications, she finally got it right. I can say with confidence, she changed my life for the better!!!

I saw Dr. Hellekson 3 times for help with sleeping difficulties. The first session was billed at $300, all that happened was her taking notes on her laptop, she barely looked up from her screen. Absolutely zero help during that session. She just typed the whole time. The second session was billed at $150. She offered information that you can basically find if you google insomnia on web md. Nothing useful. Pretty much common sense stuff. The thing that bothered me during the second session was how she snapped at me when I started asking questions. She said, that's enough today, we will continue next time. The third session was more of the same basic stuff you can easily google online. Not sure what expertise she offers. She is all about billing you but not helping you.

I started seeing Dr. Carla Hellekson at a very trying time at the height of my sleep issues. My lack of sleep was affecting everything in my life and I really felt like I was just surviving. Now I feel I am thriving and have learned so much from Dr. Hellekson.
