Dr Carlen Blume

Dr. Carlen Palmer Blume graduated in 1995 with Honors and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at The University of Texas in Austin. In 1999, she graduated Cum Laude from our own dental school, The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She has completed two residencies, the first with the US Navy, an Advanced Education in General Dentistry in San Diego, CA. Afterward, she served in the US Navy until 2006. CDR (sel) Don Blume, her husband, was a Marine Aviator at the time and was deploying quite frequently, so Dr. Blume chose to resign her commission so one parent could be with their two children. CDR (sel) Blume is now a Naval Aviator and flight instructor at NAS Corpus Christi. In 2008, the family moved to San Antonio after it was noticed that Dr. Blume had a special relationship with her pediatric patients in private practice. The reputation of UTHSCSA led her back to complete a residency in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Blume feels strongly that it is vital to be a …specialist in the field to be prepared for the complex situations that arise with treating children. They aren’t just small teeth on small people and it does require special training, patience and experience to provide the most ethical treatment of children. Dr. Blume completed her board certification on her first attempt in 2011 and maintains her status as a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist.
