Dr. Carlos Joseph Esparza, MD

I have been dealing with Dr Esparza for over 10 years for extreme chronic pain in my hands, neck and back. Dr Sean Portman and Dr Esparza are some of the smartest doctors I’ve ever dealt with and unfortunately I’ve met allot of doctors in my life!!! The staff is wonderful the girls are beautiful and fun to talk to!!! Not sure where Dr Esparza found his staff but I could of only dreamt of having a awesome crew such as this when I was Executive Chef! You guys are awesome;) You all have a great Christmas and a happy happy New Years!!! ;)

If I could give a 0, I would. I am having severe back and leg pain. I have seen Dr. Esparza in the past for the same problem. Because I had seen him before, I scheduled an appointment to see him again. It took several weeks to get the appointment. When I scheduled the appointment, I was told that, because of coronavirus, I could not go into the building and would have to wait in my car until a staffer came outside and took my temperature. My appointment was scheduled for 2:40. I arrived 10 minutes early and called the office to let them know I was waiting. No one answered the phone. I called back several times and, each time, I was transferred to voicemail. I had assumed that Dr. Esparza would have had someone at the front desk to answer the phone. The temperature outside was in the 90s. I then decided to call Dr. Esparza’s billing office, figuring that a billing clerk would pick up if someone was calling to arrange payment of a bill. Sure enough, the billing clerk… answered after the first ring. I explained that I had been calling the front desk repeatedly but no one answered the phone. The clerk who answered told me he would send someone out. After a few more minutes, a young female came out and asked for my new patient paperwork. I told her I was a previous patient and they already had all my information. She indicated I would have to fill out the New Patient paperwork again before I could see Dr. Esparza. I said I would be happy to fill out the paperwork right then and there. She said no, that was not possible, and that the appointment had been cancelled. I asked if Dr. Esparza was aware that my appointment was being cancelled. The front desk clerk told me he was aware and told her to cancel the appointment because I had not filled out the New Patient paperwork in advance. She offered to reschedule my appointment. I found this to be ridiculous: I was there at Dr. Esparza’s office in severe pain ready to be seen at the time my appointment had been scheduled for. I asked when would the appointment be rescheduled (would I have to wait weeks or months to see him? I had already waited several weeks for the appointment I was there for). She said she didn’t know, and would call me. At this point, I had been outside for nearly 30 minutes in the 90+ degree heat waiting to see the doctor, and he refused to see me because I (someone who had been seen and treated by him in the past) had not filled out New Patient paperwork in advance of the appointment. I would have to leave, fill out the paperwork, and then wait for the front desk clerk (the same person who wasn’t at the front desk to take my call when I arrived on time for my appointment) to call me at some unspecified point in time and schedule another appointment, probably weeks if not months in the future. I was experiencing severe back pain and sciatica running down my right leg. I had arrived 10 minutes before my appointment, and Dr. Esparza would not see me because I had not filled out paperwork in advance. It is worth repeating: I would have been happy to fill out the paperwork right then and there. I specifically asked to do this, but was told Dr. Esparza would not see me and my appointment had been cancelled at Dr. Esparza’s direction. I was very upset with the idea that I would have to wait weeks if not months in pain before I could see him for treatment. I told her to forget it, and I left. I am shocked that Dr. Esparza would show such a callous disregard for a patient’s well being. He turned away a patient in severe pain because the patient had not filled out paperwork in advance, despite my willingness to fill out the paperwork right then and there. Dr. Esparza was not there for me when I needed him the most. Any prospective patient should be aware of this before picking him as their doctor.

What a relief this has been to find someone to help with chronic pain! Dr. Esparza is the best! He is skilled and very caring. He knows how to treat one so drugs and surgery are avoided. I am so grateful for him!

I have been with Dr. Esparza for more then 18 years and he has been the best. His always understand that even though am young I do have pain and Need help. He has help me with multiply back shoulder and legs issue's. Thank you Esparza. If you every need a good honest Dr. he is the one for you. Just understand he is going to tell you the truth even if you don't want to hear it but he also helps you deal with the truth. Best Dr. You could have. He also has wonderful staff Thank you Betty and Anna for all you do to help me also.

Dr. Esparza is a physician I am honored to have known both personally and professionally in excess of 20 years. He is a superior diagnostician who truly cares about his patients and their improvement. He is one of the most astute observers of patients I have seen in over 35 years of reviewing medical doctors. On several occasions, he perceived things about me that I could not begin to explain. Simply amazing! He believes in injections to calm irritations that are the root of many painful conditions. He is a doctor of choice for many because he is not a surgeon. With a specialty in Physical Medicine, he can perform neurological testing to determine the depth and complexity of many conditions. Dr. Esparza has a keen mind and a good heart. He doesn't "hold hands", but is open to patient's ideas for recovery. He keeps apprised of current medical findings for an evolving practice. If you wish to get better, this is a great choice. Just be ready to become an active participant… in your healthcare. Best wishes!

Great service and staff made me feel comfortable!

I have been a patient for 10 years, was turned away from my appointment today because I was SEVEN minutes late!, and most of that time was waiting on two people in front of me to check in. It takes months to get an appt with Dr. Esparza or his P.A., then you always have to wait to see them. We are patients who have severe back pain, so it's hard enough driving across town to come to the office, just ridiculous to be turned away for being less than 10 minutes late. No sign at the reception desk, either, that lets you know of that fact. Dr. Esparza is just okay, he doesn't do anything for my severe back pain other than writing prescriptions for pain meds.

Dr Esparza has treated me for neck and low back disc problems over the last 6 years. He is very conservative and has used multiple approaches to treat my problem without recommending surgery. I highly recommend Dr Esparza.
