Dr. Carlos Abelardo Leon, MD

Very disappointed with the doctor and the staff. This doctor was recommended by my general doctor. First appointment I waited for more than an hour in the lobby and in the patient room. Made an appointment for a procedure and the week of the appointment I went in to get information and I was told by Marta that they were going to call me and let me know that the doctor cancelled the appointment because he had to take another doctor's patients on that day! Marta did I hear you correctly. What? A doctor cancels his own surgical appointments to take another doctor's office visits? I am sure money wasn't on Dr. Leon's mind when he cancelled my appointment for seeing 10-12 patients. Marta told me to ask for her when I was going to reschedule. I went in twice and called once over a two weeks span so I can speak to Marta. Finally on my second visit a male receptionist got the surgical coordinator to see me and schedule an appointment for Palms West hospital. I filled out the lengthy online… forms for the hospital and a week prior to my appointment I receive a call that my second appointment was cancelled. When I called back to speak to Marta and find out why it was cancelled, I waited for over ten minutes on my phone and was transferred to the surgical coordinator. When I asked why it was cancelled, all i received was that he wasn't doing any surgeries on that day. Sounds familiar right? A more diplomatic way fo saying the doctor will take office visits and make more money then doing one or two procedures at the hospital. I have had two doctors over 17 years and only once during that time did the doctor cancel on me and even then I was able to see his PA. I would not recommend this doctor or office for any patients. Run, don't stop, and don't you dare look back. There are other doctors that are far better qualified with staff that are caring. If i could give him zero stars I would.

I can’t rave enough about Dr. Leon. He is an expert in his field. He takes the time to explain treatment for my issues (acid reflux/EOE). I have annual visits with him to track my progress. His staff is extremely professional and are very accommodating when it comes to scheduling my appointments. You will not find a more compassionate and knowledgeable Gastroenterologist in southern Florida. I’ve read some reviews stating his office is always busy and sometimes patients have to wait a little bit to see him…that’s because he’s that good! Well worth the wait!! Highly recommend if you want quality care!!

Went twice before writing this review. This doc appears to have some serious problems. Even the staff seem to know something is wrong-they apologize for the 2hr wait (what?? Who makes pts. wait 2hrs?No good MD, that’s who). Dr needs to address his current issues before any further pt care

Caring and trustworthy

1st time seeing Dr Leon, one of the men who work at the front desk at Atlantis told my husband he had to go to the office by 45th street. We get there and to our surprise the Dr was at the othe office. The lady there had to call and they said if we were 10 min late the dr wouldn't see him. Funny because we were the ones that were given the wrong information but yet we had to rush to get to the other office in time. This time around(2nd appointment), my husband was scheduled for Tuesday. They call him to move his appointment to Thrusday because Dr. Leon wasn't going to be in. Ok, no problem - he said. His appointment was at 10:15. It was past 10:30 and NOBODY called him in. After that, he waited over an hour! And when someone FINALLY goes in, it was the NP, NOT EVEN THE DR!!!! He didn't even bother to go in. My husband had an appointment with Dr. Carlos Leon, NOT the NP, NOT anyone else. This is the LAST time they waste our time!. It is highly disrespectful for a patient who is… expecting to see his doctor to be taken care of by someone who knows NOTHING about him. This office CLEARLY needs some adjusting because they can't be wasting people's time like this. And it is completely disrespectful from Dr Leon's part to not see his patient. I really don't care what explanation they may have for this because it is simply inexcusable!.

Dr. Leon is a very busy guy, but he still takes time to answer your questions and explain things. He's also very caring. If something goes wrong, he'll speak with you on the phone, even if he's in the middle of doing something else. He makes you feel very comfortable, rather than intimidated, in his presence. Three cheers for Dr. Leon!

Horrible experience!!! Got my diagnosis wrong and didn't even take time to listen to me. Do not recommend at all!!!

Going in with my boyfriend, we waited aboubt 45mins before being put into a room then waited an additional 20 minutes or so. when the doctor finally came in, he was with him for about 5 minutes and left, came back for another two minutes for an exam and then left us waiting in the room for a whopping hour and a half while he waited for permission from the specialist to give him an antibiotic. we were there for three hours and seen for less than 10 min which I find unacceptable. The nurse was also rude when she came in to have him prep for the exam, she told me "you can leave now" but i asked my boyfriend and he told me to stay. I work in the medical field and i know that it is the patients choice whether anyone else is present or not during exams. I was also disturbed to see that he treated my boyfriend as if he was bothering him since it was an emergency appt and completely ignored me, not even a hello. COMPLETELY rude and would NOT recommend going unless you like wasting your time… with people who are rude and do very little to help you.
