Dr. Carlos Andres Plata, MD

Carlos Plata himself seems to be a good dr, i only got to see him once then got stuck seeing the female drs, during one infusion i brought my kids into the infusion room no issues, none of the drs stopped me and said i cant to that, then next infusion i had to see a dr "brandi" i brought my kids because it was summer brake and i had no one to watch my kids, so they were in the drs room with me the whole time "brandi" didn't say anything Until infusion time then she says " oh do you have someone to watch your kids? you cant bring them into the infusion room... why would she wait till after the appointment?? if i had someone to watch them i wouldn't have brought them into the room with me..stupid woman, so i couldn't get my infusion and had to come back another day, then 3months later i'm due for infusion, i tried to pay my last know balance but the secretary says its in the hundred's i never revived a bill so why is it in the hundred's? she refuses to take my card so i can make a… payment because i said ill pay my last know balance that i do have a bill for " oh i don't want to run your card twice" she says, i wasn't planning on giving my card twice but whatever so i don't make a payment, so i get called back and a nurse takes my weight and blood pressure and i made a comment about this being silly i have to see the dr because all she does is ask if im taking my meds, so the nurse runs and tattled on me so another nurse comes in and says i need to read the policy and i need to lose my attitude, which i didn't even have one, i tell her she needs to lose hers, so the dr "gina" is in the hallway talking about personal business and crap on me to the nurses and finds out i think "brandi" is stupid because of how she handled my last appointment, so "gina" comes in and said they are VERY upset because i don't like "brandi" putting personal relationships ahead of patients, and says i'm being aggressive after saying im having no issues to tell you about, which i wasn't being aggressive i wasn't yelling, screaming, cursing nothing, there just pissy because i said brandi is stupid which she is, and that these dr appointments are silly which they are because the infusion woman takes weight and blood pressure and they know if my taking my meds because it shows in the blood work, they only do the dr visits to gain more money. the last appoint i told "brandi" i'm having lots of bruising and she ignored it so why have the dr visits if they don't care?? just give me the infusion. they care more about chit chatting about personal business and personal relationships then about the patients, i told them i wont be coming back and didn't get my infusion and gina was all worked up about it like a nut raising her voice at me " oh your not coming back? is that what you said!! huh huh?? dumb woman. It shouldn't matter i don't like a so called dr there, if they were Real drs they would put their personal friendships and personal business aside and Do their jobs, but patients do not matter unless your kissing their a$$.

This doctor is a joke I had to move away 5yrs ago with out notice I had to leave the state and start my life with my 3 yr old at the time didn't have a choice!! As soon as I got into my new home I was able to get into a specialist and I requested my files to be released they knew I moved be me requesting my records I never signed a contract with this doctor and I didn't know I had to ask for permission to leave the state! Well 5 yrs later I came back to the state and I thought I will go back to the doctor that diagnosed me . Boy was I wrong he denied my request tacking me as a noncompliant patient and was and will refuse to see me! LOL what a joke

His staff is rude especially his nurse and he is a big ahole!!

I was going to give this doctor a decent rating but I am glad that I didn't. The Pros: my estimated wait time in the waiting room was 15 minutes as I completed a questionnaire. The doctor saw me in less than 10 minutes. Everything was going fine and I had a decent visit. The nurse came in took some blood for lab work and didn't take forever trying to find a vein. Good job. But here's where it goes awry. The CONS: I go home (an 1.5hrs away from the office), a couple of days later I get my labwork results via email. Sorry, I didn't go to school to be a doctor so, I can't read the results. Then a couple of days later, someone from the doctor's office calls me and asks me to call back. I return their call, but apparently the individual from the office is busy so they never call back. I call again and the office personnel ensures me that someone is going to call but nothing. Hmmm, I wonder is this an emergency or is this about the lab work? Is there something wrong? I guess I will never… know because they still never returned my call. I mean what professional calls you, leaves a msg. for you to call and then never returns your call, allowing you to worry for an additional 24hrs or more? You really have to have a lot of patience to deal with this physician. Again, I don't fault the office staff. They are the some of the best I have seen, but really it is bad enough I have to see the doctor. Then you make me anxiously wait? Come on.

I recently called and emailed Dr Plata for a prescription refill. Three days later I had no refill, no return phone call, no email response. So, I assumed everything was okay. When I call the pharmacy they tell me that he has denied the refill pending an appointment. You would think anyone with common professionalism would have called or emailed me to let me know this, but nothing. So, I am still waiting for prescription refill and looking for a new physician.

This is physician and his staff are wonderful when you are in the office. Outside of the office, it becomes a different story. Scheduling for an appointment takes about 2 months. Prescription refill takes approximately 5 days because of miscommunication between him and his staff. I had to have my prescription corrected by my primary physician because errors made by this specialist. If you try to get the "specialist" to speak to you about lab results or his staff to explain to you why they are making a change to your prescription. You can forget about it, because he will not. The best thing this physician has going for him is that he uses a lot of updated technological gadgets. The bad thing is that he is understaffed, so his communication with patients is horrible and his staff are very uncaring.

Dr Plata's staff was revamped recently and that helped with the office staff situation. But he is still so unavailable for patients. He is out of the office often, he has not Doctor to take over when he is absent for days or weeks at a time, Lupus flare ups cannot be made by appointment only. He refers you to the ER as he does't have admitting priveledges. What's the point. I'm looking outside of Amarillo for help now, as he is unavailable.

Does not follow-up on lab results. Very long wait in waiting and exam room. Billing and report problems.
