Dr. Carlos Javier Ramirez-Icaza, MD

I went to Dr. Ramirez with shortness of breath and a cough that I had for months. He told me I was overweight and that if I lost weight my symptoms may go away. I am 5'2 152 lbs at the time of visit. I am not that overweight. He also said I did not try on my breath test. Which I did and did not understand what he was saying so I ask to take it again. He declined and said come see me if anything changes. Unfortunately, I did not get a second opinion. My cough subsequently subsided until last month when it was discovered that now I have stage 4 lung cancer. It would have been caught in the early stages 9 months ago with a much better recovery rate. I asked my doctor to send me to a pulmonologist because I knew I needed further evaluation. Please get a second opinion, your life may depend on it.

Not helpful at all!

I waited two months for my very ill Father to see this supposedly great doctor. After waiting for over an hour, this doctor rushes in making excuses like we are supposed to feel sorry for him! What a lot of nerve. He didn’t even give us the respect to listen to my comments about my dads failing health. But instead he says a sleep study is what is needed! Can you believe it?! Don’t go to him

Not what I expected. He is very rushed. Interrupted and didn’t listen. My health issues remain.

I'm not sure how he is as a regular doctor/pulmonologist, but I went to see him as a sleep doctor. The initial appointment was supposed to be discussing my sleep issues (mainly insomnia) and was supposed to last 1 hour. It lasted about 10 minutes and he came in with a preset diagnosis - sleep apnea, and I needed a sleep study to prove it. I showed up with an SPO2 at home test I already had that didn't show sleep apnea. He wasn't concerned with hearing that and really none of my other questions. I'm not sure how you can have sleep apnea when the issue is you can't get to sleep. I have a feeling everyone needs a sleep study and all they care about is sleep apnea and filling up the sleep lab they own. I had a friend that also went to this place and did the sleep study and they called a week later and just said you don't have it, but gave no other solutions or analysis. If you are going for sleep issues, I would be weary.

Wonderful bedside manner. Very knowledgeable and provides great follow through.
