Dr. Carlos Roberto Vassaux, MD

I had an incredibly upsetting experience with Dr. Vassaux. After years of struggling with life-altering symptoms, I was finally diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and was truly hopeful to start a treatment plan. While the front desk staff was welcoming, the actual appointment was a nightmare. Dr. Vassaux spent a significant amount of time explaining how asthma works (even drawing a diagram of the esophagus) only after telling me that I do not have asthma. He made sweeping assumptions about my lifestyle and diet without asking a single question. When I tried to provide context about my health and physical limitations, he was completely dismissive. Instead of providing specific medical guidance on how to manage my condition, he simply told me to "look up information" myself. The situation escalated when I mentioned a medication my endocrinologist had already prescribed and instructed me to have my pulmonary doctor submit an authorization. I wasn’t asking him for a new… prescription; I just needed him to provide the insurance-required clinical confirmation of my OSA diagnosis so my insurance can cover it and the pharmacy could release it. He immediately began yelling at me, stating he doesn't prescribe that medication, and refused to listen to the explanation. In all my years of working with specialists, I have never been treated with such disrespect. When I asked why he was yelling, he claimed I had an "attitude" simply because I was being assertive and asking questions about my own care. He kept his voice raised for the remainder of the visit and told me to see someone else next time I come back. As someone who grew up in an environment where yelling felt unsafe, this was incredibly triggering. I have always had great experiences with UCHealth, but I am shocked that someone this unprofessional is part of their network. No patient should be made to feel unheard or unsafe for advocating for their own health.

I’m giving a one star review based on my visit with not only Dr. Vassaux but the staff and the very poor organization and phone wait times are unacceptable! If you call the office be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes on hold. Simple request to send a referral to another specialist has taken weeks and many phone calls at 25 minutes each time.

It has been almost ten years since I watched my daughter slowly die in front of my eyes and in front of one of her dictirs; Dr. Carlis Vassaux. It was not until I obtained the medical that I realized that my daughter was anemic hypernattemic and under for six days. All of these conditions cause coma and eventually death. I remembering begging for pain medication for my daughter. She got one suppository of tylenol; she needed sedation! I remember begging for a blood transfusion. Another doctor finally said he would authorize it if I would let them do an EEG on her brain. Dr. Vassaux could have ordered food for my daughter which is a treatment for brain injury and is much needed for oxygen to bind to the red blood cells which would have aided in oxygen saturation. He did not. He could have corrected the water loss. He did not. He could have ordered more blood to alleviate the anemia; he did not. Dr. STeve Dubs ordered the extra blood after I complained. I would take no purpose of animal… to this doctor. My daughter died a horrific death in severe pain; anemia which is slow suffocation due to oxygen in blood failure dehydration and starvation while her doctor stomped around like a little red imp.Thank you Varolyn Gallaher

No option to rate -10, but I survived. 40- year smoker (quit in 2012). Chronic cough most of 2013. My ENT said no issues, worried about lungs. I went to Vassaux (aka Dr. Useless). Months of “it’s GERD - elevate your bed, don’t eat this, eat that, high dose of acid blockers”. No improvement. Went to GI and got scoped (no referral), doctor said no way, no acid = no GERD. Back to useless - now it’s Methacoline Test to prove I don’t (have never, at 58 had asthma). Three tries, I couldn’t blow enough to get a pre-test baseline. I quit fall of 2013. By Dec 2014, cough would put me on the floor and I broke ribs. By Christmas, coughing I was down for 30 minutes. Jan 2, 2014 went to Urgent Care - 5 minutes with a GP and one Xray (first after 7 months) = “why is your trachea pushed over here?”. 3 Jan a different Pulmonologist. 4 Jan, Oncologist. SCLC, Extensive, Metastatic. Had I not been too sick, too week, and passed the statue of limitations, I’d have sued. By the grace of God… and good oncologists I am alive at diagnosis +5. By the same I never hunted this scum down. Go to a pulmonologist and never a lung XRay for a long term smoker with a chronic cough. I wouldn’t trust him to take a stool sample. MSgt, USAF, Ret
