Dr. Carol Ann Beals, MD

She is the best rheumatologist in the Lansing area. I've gone to others who had horrible bedside manners, and Dr. Beals is extremely understanding and compassionate. She listens to what you have to say, what your concerns are, and is realistic about "goals" for your quality of health. My initial visit with her lasted nearly 3 hours, she is very thorough, so I didn't mind spending that much time at a dr's office! Definitely recommend her to anyone dealing with an autoimmune disease.

I have been seeing Dr. Beals or one of her highly qualified medical practioners for over thirty years. Dr. Beals and her staff are the most caring medical providers I have ever had. Patients know that they are not just a number at the Beals Institute but rather a real person. They don't just treat my illness. They are interested in all aspects of my well-being. It is so hard to find medical practioners that realize that the patient is the number one person on the treatment team. They understand that at the Beals Institute. I appreciate that when I am not feeling well and require further testing that I don't have to drag myself all over town just to get my blood drawn or have x-rays taken. I can choose to get them done at the Beals Institute or back in my home town. I highly recommend Dr. Beals and her staff of medical professionals.

From my own experience, and hearing about others, one word seems to describe Dr. Beal's practice and that is "erratic". Some people seem to have a great experience however, mine was similar to other reviewers...4-5 hours of waiting, uneccessary in-house Xrays, being seen by an assistant at the last minute after waiting hours to see the doctor. Dr. Beals is a very personable woman however I question her office mngmt. practices when some patients seem to get gold standard treatment and others the run around.

Dr. Beals was a nurse before becoming a doctor. This gives her not only the medical expertise of a doctor, but the caring and compassion of nurse. She even called me at home one WEEKEND evening to check on my condition! She does a complete exam...more than any other doctor has (including checking skin, nails, and hair for signs of my disease in addition to the usual x-rays and blood tests) She then gave me a copy of my history and physical to check that it was accurate as far as my complaints go. She wants to make sure that she does not miss a thing! I am a nurse myself and have never worked with a doctor this good before!

You will wait more than 2 months to get an appointment, wait 4-5 hours after you get there and then see the doctor beals for less than 2 minutes in which she will order every expensive test and treatment like remicade - all in her office. she will squeeze every last penny from your insurance. Then you will not see the doctor - nurse practitioner or PA. Speaks so sadly of our health care system that stuff like this can go on for years - more than thirty. Stay away from her.

I often waited for several hours for an appointment. It was recommended that you call ahead to see if the doctor was running on time. I took the day off work for one appointment just to have the office call me a few minutes before my appointment to ask to reschedule on another day because the doctor was running behind. When I indicated that it would be about a month before I could make another appointment, they had me come in at about 5pm. I finally saw the doctor after 6pm.

Excellent is not a high enough rating. I had to wait one year before getting my first appointment with her. The initial visit is four hours. She will spend all the time with you that you need. You never feel rushed. She is the most fantastic human being I have ever met. I would like to bottle her up and keep her in my pocket. I honestly love and respect this woman.
