Carol L. Brown, MD

My experience with Dr. Brown unfortunately mirrored that of patients writing negative reviews of her. I too experienced an exceptionally long wait time. The doctor, while highly accomplished, was also arrogant, dismissive and lacking in empathy. She talked over me and outright refused to answer questions she did not like, but which were necessary for me in order to gain a better understanding of my health status. I found her tone to be condescending and cold.

Dr. Brown is an excellent Doctor. She is an expert in her field who shows empathy and compassion. Her office wait time can be long but it is worth the wait.

First, a number of reviewers described Dr. Brown as arrogant with an oversized ego. My question is this: Were you Seeking a "friend" or a person who could provide you with the best care under your individual circumstance. I was in search of the latter; I have other "friends." Second, others complained of the "wait." I was delighted to "wait" because it signaled to me that my exam & consult with Dr. Brown would not be rushed. It wasn't. Others complained of the time Dr. Brown spent with him/her. I instead focused on the fact that she had fully mastered my medical history from her review of a slew of medical records which I brought with me, without a single misstep, likely when I was being drilled by her PA. In addition, she has been incredibly responsive & has assembled a team of physicians who I wholeheartedly believe are providing me with the best chance of obtaining the best result given my competing medical needs.

Anyone who's had a family member or close friend with cancer knows how difficult it is through all stages form diagnosis to treatment and remission. My mother saw Dr. Brown for a consult. The wait is ridiculous but most of the sloan kettering offices are like that so it's sadly just expected. Dr. Brown simply doesn't care on a human to human basis, let alone a doctor to patient relationship. You're just another disease to cure to boost her glorious ego. When my mom asked her a simple question Dr. Brown gave her a look of disgust as if the question was just too amateur or silly for her to even consider answering. It's extremely disappointing to have an egotistical doctor like her at a place like MSK.

If I could give Dr. Brown negative stars, I would; "poor" does not even begin to describe my experience with her; OUTRAGEOUS might come closer. My appointment with her was for 1:30 pm, and l left the office at 6:45 pm! FIVE AND A QUARTER HOURS IN TOTAL, of which Dr. Brown, herself, spent fifteen minutes with me. A tech took my vitals, and her physician's assistant took my complete medical history and then reviewed it with her. When she finally saw me at first at about 5:30. never having met me before, she told me that she would not apologize for keeping me waiting, that I could leave if I wanted to, if I had a problem with having to wait so long. I told her I had invested too much time to do that. She refused to answer questions and continuously steered the conversation to how many years experience she had had, and how qualified she was, having done thousands of surgeries. I finally told her the conversation was not about her, that I did not doubt her competency in the… O.R. but wanted to discuss other treatment options I had read about. I also wanted her views on the importance of the mind-body connection in treating cancer (something MSK supposedly prides itself on, with its integrated medical approach), and mentioned one of the doctors who had written extensively about this. She had never heard of him, did not want to look at his book that I had with me, and told me she wasn't about to learn anything new from me. Her tone was rude to the point of being barely civil, abrasive, lacked all empathy or understanding of the patient's perspective, and arrogant -- all of which far outweighed whatever knowledge or skills she may have had. Such lack of professionalism would have been unacceptable in a mechanic fixing a car, let alone a doctor treating an ill patient. I would rather risk dire medical consequences than ever to place my well-being in her hands. She is dictatorial, simply does not care what her patients think of her, and says so. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER USING THIS DOCTOR.

Waited over two hours for a rushed visit where staff did most of work in visit. She does not like questions. Maybe she's usually nice. I won't go back

Dr. Carol Brown did a great job with my surgery and MSK's facilities and hospital are fantastic. She was on time and professional on the surgery day. However, regular appointments, she was nice sometimes and rude others. She seemed annoyed with my questions and didn't bother to explain things that my gyno easily explained to me later. I never know if the appointment will be pleasant with her or not.

I accompanied a friend with a new diagnosis of uterine cancer. Dr. Brown was 2 hours late, with no explanation or apology. We waited in the exam room for another two hours. She spent 10 minutes answering our questions and was curt and abrupt. She made it clear my friend's uterine cancer was not interesting to her and even popped her head in as we were leaving to say "It's OK for you to go to another doctor." We were there from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.

Highly educated, experienced, professional and a warm, assuring personality.

Dr Brown is phenomenal. I really do not have an adequate adjective to describe her. As a registered nurse, I have worked in many environments with many different physicians over the past 28 years. I have never encountered a physician or a facility that can compare to Dr. Brown or to MSK. I am a difficult person to impress. Where Dr. Brown is concerned, I am beyond impressed. She is what a physician should be. This is how patient care should be delivered. After 28 years I learned from Dr. Brown and MSK that it can be done right. That was an overwhelming realization.
