Dr. Carol Lynn Gnatuk, MD

After a tormenting 2 years of dealing with menopause it was recommended that I see Hershey Med Center's menopause specialist who had a ton of experience. (I am currently searching outside of the Hershey Medical Group for gynecological care in general. I find it lacking expertise, consistency or care follow up). But to get back to the doctor being reviewed. Her approach leaves a lot to be desired. She did 99% of the talking and did not listen to anything about me or how I felt about the options being presented to me or that I have tried in the past. She was dismissive of what I found to work for me, which helps with only a small portion of the monster that is menopause. I left feeling exactly they way I did coming in. Confused and upset about this huge part of the aging process. She did call the following day to say she thought how the appointment was left, felt off to her and she wasn't clear on why I didn't want to go with her recommendation. I do appreciate the follow up… call. She was correct to think the appointment did not go well. If she was genuine in her concern about the appointment, then there is merit to that.

This doctor was, by far, the most condescending, rude medical person (I don't want to use the word "professional" because she lacked any kind of professionalism) that I have ever had the misfortune to come across. She is the only bad experience I have ever had at Hershey Medical Center, most other doctors there are lovely, and she is the reason we left and went straight to Shady Grove. She was rude and short with my husband, acted as if he was unessential to the fertility process (clearly, that's incorrect), and she was incredibly nasty and condescending to me. She cut me off every time I'd ask a question and act like I was too stupid to comprehend what she was trying to explain. She acted like I didn't understand my own rights and tried to bypass them (I'm a lawyer, so clearly, she was mistaken there, too). She's a miserable doctor who doesn't care about her patients and has absolutely no bedside manner, something that, frankly, should be required in an area of medicine as… fraught with patient anxiety and depression and reproductive endocrinology. People who are having trouble having children need care, concern, and hope, and she will give you none of these. If you're going to Hershey, find a different care provider, or just skip their R.E. practice and go straight to Shady Grove.

I was a patient of Dr. Gnatuk's for approximately ten years (1996-2006). Went through two surgeries with her and numerous visits. Diagnosis was endometriosis. I always felt I was in good, extremely competent hands and was happy for the choice I made. I drove two hours one way to see her and never regretted it. I would recommend her hands down.

She supported me through many rounds of pregnancy attempts. I learned to adapt to her bedside manner. I think she is stressed by the rushed system at the hospital in which you have limited time to see patients. I try to keep that in perspective when she seems rude in her tone.

Went into Hershey for a second opinion I was pleased with the doctor and ended up switching doctors to Hershey .

Dr G was kind, professional and patient with me for many years as I struggled with infertility. After an appointment when I suffered from some bad news she could tell I was on the verge of tears and she rode the elevator down with me. I appreciated her kind support and think she is a wonderful doctor.

My experience with this physician was horrible. I felt belittled and unheard and to me she was uncaring and cold. I also experienced her to lack objectivity. Although, she is considered to be "a specialist" she provided me with false information and appeared oblivious to well documented information concerning my problem. The medical records about our visit were inaccurate. I did not receive any help or symptom relief from this physician. I felt more hopeless and helpless about my situation than ever after our visit.

Despite a welcoming manner, I experienced some frustration with the uncertain and delayed instructions Dr. Gnatuk offered. I did not appreciate the frequent changes in treatment or the rationale behind them.

Negative experience in general with Dr Gnatuk. She was pushy with treatments even when I told her my insurance didn't cover them and I didn't feel comfortable with some of the options. I finally had a positive pregnancy. My hormone levels were low so she said I could be very early in the pregnancy or it might not have stuck. She said this same thing after each appt. but finally she "thought" she saw something in the ultrasound, printed off ultrasound pictures, told me I was about 5 weeks along so "add 35 weeks to that and that's your due date." Sent me home with my 2nd round of a $200 perscription and a sense of relief that things were looking up. She called a few hours later -when the bloodwork finally came in, and told me it looked like a miscarriage. "It COULD be a tubal pregnancy...but I don't really thing it is...but if it is, it COULD be fatal." I have been seeing Dr Dodson since that whole experience and he put me on a pill that wasn't even mentioned by Dr. Gnatuk -… even though she knew how I felt about the more invasive and expensive options. I feel like she wasted so much of my money, time, and gave me much more heartache and confusion than I would have had seeing someone else.

Dr. Gnatuk is very nice but pushy. She also did not honor my expressed wishes for my surgery during the surgery. Be aware that as it is a teaching hospital you will have no say in who provides care for you even if you try to request it.
