Carol A Stessman, MD

I've been a patient of Dr Stessman for almost 20 years. As have many of my friends and family. She never makes me feel like she's rushed to get to the next patient. She listens, asks questions than offers her professional opinion.

She diagnosed me with a condition I did not have without even suggesting I see a specialist regarding a confirmatory opinion. After dealing with anxiety and depression for months regarding the prognosis, I decided to get a second opinion from a gynecologist and dermatologist. They both assured me I did not have the condition (it was a rare, cutaneous disorder that affects less than 1% of the population). Because of my diagnosis, I was prescribed topical cream that almost scarred me and was completely unwarranted. Consequently, I have a hard time trusting doctor's opinions anymore and deal with severe health anxiety. I completely understand why the assumption was made because my condition does mimic the one diagnosed but I should have been referred for a second opinion before subjecting me to treatment.
