Summary

My Qualifications

I've been with Kaiser Permanente for five years now. Prior to working for Kaiser Permanente, I did my residency and then stayed on the faculty of a top 3 medical school/top 10 hospital. I was pleased to find the Kaiser Permanente physicians to be every bit as bright and dynamic as my academic colleagues from St. Louis.

My Healthcare Practice

I am an Emergency Physician. This means I am an expert in treating a wide variety of traumatic and serious medical illnesses. I decided to do this because I like action and variety and function best under pressure.

One of the best things about being an emergency physician is being able to make a dramatic difference in a person's life in a very short time. Seeing the concern and pain melt off my patients face as they respond to treatment is a great reward. Also, I enjoy the problem solving/diagnostic challenges. I believe the ER is a great place to practice preventive counseling, too, because patients in crisis are more willing to hear messages about how their behavior puts them at risk.

One of my professional interests is wilderness/travel medicine.

Receiving Your Healthcare from Kaiser Permanente

The thing I appreciate the most about practicing with Kaiser Permanente is the coordinated care and the centralized information. In seconds, I can have a patient's history with an account of all medications, illnesses, and procedures. It's all just a keyboard away. Since all my patients in the ER are new to me, it allows me to make informed decisions on complicated problems very efficiently. I also value the network of experts within Kaiser Permanente who respond promptly to epidemics and local health threats and guide our good care.

My Outside Interests

I was born and raised and trained in the Midwest. Being a doctor probably defines me more than anything. My family and friends are right up there too. The thing I love the most about the geography of my job is that it has allowed me to explore the outdoors and new athletic pursuits. I have become an avid cyclist and mountain biker and snow skier and even do volunteer doctor ski patrol at a Tahoe resort. Kaiser Permanente supports me in this venture. I am more active and healthier in my forties than ever before. I use that happiness and enthusiasm to inspire my patients to a healthier life style as well. My greatest athletic pursuit to date is completing all 5 mountain passes of the Death Ride, a 125 mile cycling event with 16,000 feet of climbing. I'm excited more than ever to learn more sports medicine both to enhance my own training and provide better care to injured athletes who I take care of in the ER.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
