Dr. Carolyn Martin, MD

Dr Martin advised that I get a partial hysterectomy after discovering an enlarged uterus and experiencing excessive bleeding during my menstrual cycles. Five years later, I am still suffering from excessive bleeding and pain. I just saw an Oncologist because my doctor told me she is the only one that can fix what has been done. After continuing to have periods immediately after my surgery with Dr Martin, she was flippant and defensive with my questions. She was very late to the surgery as well. I spent all of that money and endured the pain and recovery for nothing. The Oncologist said that it doesn't just look like I have a little bit of uterus left. She said it looks like I still have a uterus. I will endure another surgery and will be forced to include my cervix and ovaries this time. Incredibly unprofessional, undependable and frankly incompetent. This has been a tough five years.

Cari Martin is an amazing doctor. I have been going to her for 10 years and continue to for my gynecological needs despite no longer needing her an OB. She is professional, classy and really cares about patient care.

I would recommend Dr. Martin to anyone! I have been seeing her for 10 years now and went through a pregnancy as well. She is so companionate and comforting I couldn't imagine going through pregnancy with any other doctor.

I ended up with a fatal condition at the end of my pregnancy and Dr. Martin was amazing at guiding through my options and coaching through labor.

I can't stress enough what a bad experience I had with this doctor both physically and emotionally. Her quick decision that I needed a hysterectomy was followed by a flippant overconfidence, being over an hour late to the procedure and not in the least bit following through on her promises. After having a "hysterectomy", I have full, regular cycles, still have pain and my doctors are bewildered. When I called her for follow-up, she was defensive and unprofessional. I am so deeply disappointed and have lost a lot of faith in western medicine and the standards that are required. Do NOT go to this doctor for surgery. She isn't qualified. I say that our of care and not vengeance.

The wait time was long but they made up for it by offering a $5 Starbucks card. Dr. Martin was amazing, talking me through my procedure and putting my nerves at ease. I will recommend her to friends!

I am really disappointed. I was suffering for years with excessive menstrual bleeding, bloating and pain throughout the month. My uterus was enlarged about three times what is considered "normal" or average. Dr. Martin suggested I get my uterus out. She said I would not regret it. What I do regret is not doing more independent research. I am disappointed for the following reasons: 1. Doctor Martin initially did not discuss options regarding leaving my cervix or removing it, only the option between robotic or laparoscopic. She assumed we would remove it. When I asked about my sex life at my pre-op appointment, she said "let's leave your cervix!" I told her that I had heard that some people still get mini-periods when they do that and her response was: "You won't bleed." Two months later, I am having horrible menstrual cramps and bleeding and not just a little bit. 2. When I went for my follow-up, she looked in my chart and said that it indicated that my ovaries had… been removed. She said they needed to change that because they had not. I asked her if she was sure. 3. When I told her about my bleeding, she minimized it and said that they could cauterize the cervix and that they should have done that in the surgery. She later said that she remembers doing that during the surgery but probably didn't get down far enough. I am not sure what is true. 4. When I started bleeding the second month, she said that cauterizing my cervix may or may not help. 5. I am left wondering if the endometriosis that she found will now cause future problems, am left with painful menstrual cycles and have consistently felt my questions and concerns are dismissed by Dr. Martin. When I aired my frustrations, I felt that her response lacked accountability, care and honesty. She also said that hearing my complaints made her want to tell me to get another doctor. I have done just that and will be getting a second opinion and hope to find some answers. 6. Having this surgery took money, time from my family and friends to care for my children and healing time that has taken away from other areas of my life. I would not go to Doctor Martin again because of her lack of communication, lack of surgical success and then lack of accountability. I hope she will start to take the time to communicate options, include the patient in educated decisions and to value the patient enough to listen.

I began seeing Dr. Martin 5 years ago before my first pregnancy and searched long and hard for a doctor that shared similar traits to myself. I was impressed that Dr. Martin had 4 children, a successful career, and was well respected. Check on all of those boxes. We settled into a regular routine for my first pregancy care, my husbnad and I were always impressed at her attention to our questions, her calm nature, and her confidence. She spent as much time as we needed answering our questions, listening to all of my aches/concerns associated with my first go around the mommyhood track. Now the experiences we had in the office was one thing, but lets talk about labor and delivery! Now we had quite an experience with our first child and was Dr.Martin worth her weight in gold! After almost 24 hours in labor all while having the care of the Seattle OBGYN doctors, Dr. Martin came in during a somewhat stressful situation and calmed the nurses, directed what she needed and where, and remained… the calm, confident doctor she had exuded in her office, excpet she just shinned when in her element of delivery. We were so lucky to have her there for the birth of our son and honestly knew I would never want to have another child without being under her care. Fast forward to 2012 and we have recently welcomed our 3rd child, all delivered by Dr.Martin. We have developed a lovely relationship over the years with Dr.Martin and her staff, and have referred a number of our friends to her for their health care needs. While we are now done with our family, I have been so fortunate to have had the care of Dr. Martin these past 5 years.
