I am totally satisfied with the care I receive from Dr Burns. She seems to be concerned about your treatment. When I stay on course she encourages me, when I get off course she encourages me to to get back on track. Her concern makes you want to stay on track, because she geniuenly shows her concern for you as an individual. I would recommend her to any person who needs her specialty.

Best Doc I have

I've been a patient of Dr. Burns for almost 3 years and have always enjoyed having her as one of my doctors. I never mind spending a little time in the waiting room, because I know when it is my turn I will always get her full attention and the time I need to discuss my symptoms and concerns. I've had quite a few arrogant doctors seemingly blow me off because they couldnt immediately diagnose what was wrong. Dr. Burns never made me feel that way, and always took my concerns seriously and truly wanted to help. When I had serious health issues unrelated to endocrinology she would pick up the phone to check on me after seeing medical notes from other Penn doctors. She even went so far as to do medical research outside the realm of Endo in an effort to help me. I have added comfort that not only is Dr. Burns monitoring my current thyroid issues; she monitors me for the known potential complications which could arise long before I have complaints or show signs of damage. She is easy… to talk to and I routinely recommend her to my friends and family.

Initially, my experience with Dr. Burns was fair. However, she became a huge disappointment to me when she "attempted" to treat my medical condition (testosterone treatment for transgender patients) in which she has minimal, if any, experience in such treatment. When it was time to increase the dosage to a therapeutic level, she refused. I clearly demonstrated a rather slow progression in the development of my transitional sexual characteristics. I still was menstruating, when I should not have been, which would warrant an increase in the dose. When I questioned the appropriateness of the course of treatment, she became arrogant rather than providing me with patient education. She demonstrated a careless attitude and showed no desire to learn more about the condition or the appropriate course of treatment for me. She stopped returning my phone calls and never followed up with me. Of course, I decided to change physicians at that point and I am very glad that I did! After one month of… seeing my new doctor, (with him prescribing me the APPROPRIATE dose of testosterone) my menses stopped. However, I was with Dr. Carrie Burns for 13 months and still was menstruating! She should not treat patients who have similar conditions as myself unless she becomes further educated in treating patients like me. She could definitely benefit from some courses in demonstrating compassion toward patients and effective listening skills and communication. I would never recommend her.
